I sat into a table to reserve it and it was all covered by cups and napkins and haven’t being cleaned/cleared out yet (many tables were in the same situation: are we not in a pandemic situation where businesses should be more aware about health and hygiene requirements?? . I previously ordered at the counter so they already acknowledged me but they didn’t clean my table and serve my breakfast before clearing it out, leaving crumbs and stains not even wiping it, so suddenly a dirty napkin from a previous customer crashed into my croissant and the waitress, who was witnessing the scene, didn’t even offer to replace it and I have to suggest it (I should have left! pointing it out ...really poor...then she went back not even apologising for the incident. At the counter the barista was really rude and patronising: I mentioned it was a shame I couldn’t have the croissant and she didn’t even let me finish and she said that customers should wait before sitting and the girl was by herself on the floor (three people working in a small place: it isn’t a a customer issue if they cannot share/manage their responsibilities and if they understaffed! which is true but customers should also find a clean and welcoming environment to relax and enjoy and it is not their problem if the business cannot keep the tables and the floor clean on the first place and, especially breakfast should be served on a clean table and on a dirty and messy one! Unbelievable! Really poor customer service skills and not customer oriented at all. I prefer to invest my money somewhere else where staff are polite and welcoming, respect the customer which it isn’t this place reality surely !!!
Nice and beautiful place but extremely expensive! Breakfast only with sweet options (not good for me). The owner speaks English and is very polite.
So...we spent a month here in Pavia and came here almost 5 x week. We too had moments of the, as we 'll call it, Italian experience from a couple of times BUT one morning I went out of my way to ask how the server was doing and gave her a big tip (despite knowning tips are not a thing here) and the experience from then on out was phenomenal. I think it 's important to remember the context and being willing to go out of our way (I know that 's not the American way) but it worked. We found that getting to know each person (even if you just visit one time) can make things for the better.
