It was a bit charred round the edges. No sign of any feta and haggis under the hard pastry. No mention of the haggis on the menu. Wouldn't have ordered if it had been. The small portion of veg was ok. Vegetarian options: Only two options Service: Dine in
The sticky date pudding was genuinely to die for and I enjoyed the venison main. Our server Vasu was attentive and had a lot of solid local recommendations. I would recommend this place to anyone passing through st andrews. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Booked the Bothy for Hogmany Dinner. On the whole we had a lovely time. Unfortunately the service was not great. We were seated for twenty minutes before we were asked if we would like to order a drink. I asked for a Hendricks gin and tonic. Hendricks gin should be served with cucumber, it came with lemon which I dislike, I asked the server to change it but she came back to say they didn’t have any cucumber??? A bit strange for a restaurant!!! Despite paying for and pre booking our meal, we were in the restaurant for fully one hour before we were served our starters which we had to ask for. The next two courses came as expected after this and the food was good. I might add, the people on the table next to us, who arrived after us, were well through their main course before we got our starters. After finishing our food I ordered a cocktail only to be told they didn’t have one of the ingredients for the drink I’d ordered??? Why have it on the menu then???? I had to choose another. The staff were lovely and it was not their fault that the place was understaffed. They all appeared to be working very hard but at times no staff were to be seen. The music was not great but did liven up a bit as the night wore on!!!!!! He was not a bad singer but the music he played, other than a handful of songs, was not the most lively.
We visited The Bothy last month as a group of 21 people, mostly students. Had made a reservation well in advance. They'd set a whole top floor aside for us, tables and everything well arranged before we got there. We were served by Chris that night; she and the folks with her looked after the needs of the group really well. Turns out, our travel agent had missed out some dietary restrictions. Folks at the restaurant were very accommodating of this. That first soup never had something so amazing. Everybody enjoyed their food! Great service. 10/10 would go again.
Very poor all round. We were given the menus at 7.15pm and the waitress told us that 7 dishes had ran out. We asked what the “Braw Deal” options were and this was apparently off too, despite being a Friday. Having picked from the limited menu we were told that they’d run out of more items and had to choose again. We had some basic starters which were fine, but then waited an hour for the mains. We had to leave for arranged transport at 9, so agreed to pay the bill when the food arrived to save time. The fish pie was cold, the steak was under cooked and tough (didn’t get eaten) and the chips were hard. The sauces for the burgers never arrived, so had to leave the table to find the waitress to get these. We got 20% off the bill due to the poor selection. This still totalled £125 for what was very poor quality and service. They may just have had a bad evening, but I’d suggest not worth the gamble. We certainly won’t be back.
