The best part of the visit was the short play that depicted three of the personalities that you would have seen when it was a penal colony. Highly recommend viewing one of those plays!
Great place with a lot of beautiful scenery. Would recommend a visit to those who have never been there.
I'm giving the historic site five stars as it was absolutely incredible and the caretakers have done a fantastic job maintaining this place. If you like history, it's here in spades. We did the ghost tour and unfortunately our tour guide, Jacinta, really cheapened the experience with very disrespectful humour and over-the-top storytelling. I would do the ghost tour again but hopefully we'd be able to request a different tour guide. To be fair, she was very young and probably doesn't understand the depth of how much suffering really went on. At least that's how it seemed. Overall though, the place is beautiful even with the overwhelming sadness and heavy feeling that's in the air... It's worth taking a few hours to walk around on your own during the day to really get the full experience. Especially in the morning
My son and I were visiting from the UK and decided to spend the day at Port Arthur . We both loved everything about it and put it high on our list of must dos when visiting Tasmania . We were fortunate to be able to watch 2 out of the 3 short 15 minute plays that were held throughout the day and thoroughly enjoyed them . The 3 actors brought the characters and stories alive with their re enactments and they were just the right length of time to keep you interested . The young actor has a perfect English accent so if he isn’t from the UK then well done !!
Such a beautiful place, filled with such sadness. The air is heavy in this amazing spot well worth a visit and wander around taking in what you can
