Contribuer aux commentairesThe Akka brand or Aka is so popular in Mauritius, Port louis north, that it is difficult to review any offspring bearing the same name. Historically, what I could gathered as information was the first Aka is found in Cassis between Mauritius Telecom compound (nearer to the compound) and the Muslim cemetery on the road to Bain des Dames. The first Aka was a mother and son's business, Aka the mother and Samynaden Sivajee the son, afterwards other brothers or in-laws founded their own Aka What was once particular with Aka is nowadays almost found everywhere that's serious about food. To understand, you would have to be accustomed to the traditional indian origin flatbread/ faratha or paratha and crepes also known as dholl puri in Mauritius. Traditionally, the dish is sold from a cart or bicycle equipped with a glass box at the back. This traditional street food is simply stuffed with tomato sauce (rougaille pomme d'amour), butter bean curry and coriander chutney or sometimes coconut chutney. The roti is a cheap and easy dish that you enjoy while on the run. Then Aka brought this dish to the real meal with a very large flatbread and an assortment of recipes that ranged from the traditional basics to fish, meat or whatever you'd like. Most people agreed that a normal person would not be able to eat more than one of the Aka roti while the traditional street roti are so slim that 2 is the minimum. So, back to Sainte Croix Akka...well if you've ever eaten one of the Cassis's Aka then you may be disappointed but personally I'd advise on not comparing the two. The Sainte Croix Akka has it's own personality and should be considered as such: a descent place to have a nice meal that is easy and not too messy. I prefer their Aka basic and seldom will take one or two with some kind of meat.
Not up to standard. not value for money. unsanitary.
The roti is delicious and there are a wide variety of curries available. The service is fast and of high quality, making it worth the price.
This restaurant is a must-visit for its beautiful ambiance and delicious food.
