Rudest manager I 've ever seen, (downtown Wilmington store) and she seems to have a huge attitude with people belonging to certain demographics. There really is no excuse for the way she talks to 'some ' people. I can 't believe anyone in retail management would act this way. I 'd like to point out that I was not the recipient of her behavior; she was okay toward me, (W/F) but I 've witnessed more than a couple of times that her behavior bordered on harassment; on one of my visits I overheard her talking to co workers about a customer who had just left, (btw, he purchased and paid for several food items and was respectful) in an extremely derogatory manner, saying she just 'knew ' he was stealing beer and she intended to catch him in the act. As it happens, I am acquainted with the individual she was referring to in this particular case, and I know for a fact that he doesn 't drink, ever. I wish I had spoken up at the time, but I was so shocked, and hurrying to an appointment. The more i think about it, the more it upsets me; hence prompting me to this review. The appearance of the store can vary sometimes it 's reasonably put together, other times it 's a hot mess. unfortunately we don 't have an abundance of options downtown or I would never shop there. that kind of profiling is unacceptable
From the UK, I was in Wilmington on business and stopped by the store (twice) to pick up some US snacks to take back for my kids. A really lovely lady helped me to choose probably the nicest shop assistant I've ever come across. I wish she could have seen the reaction of the kids to the Takis she recommended it was hilarious. My eldest daughter literally cried eating them! Their favourites were the N Clusters thank you so much!!
Sadly I have to change my review on this establishment.. I have been in the CS Business for over 45 years as well own 2 profitable businesses, one over 22 years.. Now what's up with the shops on water street the people they hire are becoming extremely rude with an attitude facial expressions that are unprofessionally rude. I feel you need to train your employees Do Not Judge A Book By It's Cover!!!!!!!! I have shopped the store regularly do love that they have everything that I have usually forgotten from the grocery store.. Now I have been asked a few times if I bought the their bag OMG YES YES YES!!!! I recently used the self checkout, paid for my items and was packing my bag when I accidentally slipped and the item began another purchase.. To me not a big deal.. I called for help as the machine says too. Only to have to deal with one of the rudest employee's Ever!! They literally asked me for my receipt to make sure I was not stealing toilet paper OMG Covid 2.0 Toilet Paper Hoarding LOL What really gets me upset is when you are a regular customer, they see you all the time then oops I made a mistake with the self checkout machine ... YOU ARE NOW TREATED LIKE A CRIMINAL.. And they say just doing their job? Horse Pucky So let me apologize for wearing no makeup, sweats, and sneakers.. If they even had a clue what I was actually wearing they would of never been so rude.. You CAN WEAR DESIGNER FASHION WITHOUT SHOWING OFF THE DESIGNER TO THE WORLD.. What happened to people just being polite without assuming.. We all know what happens when one assumes MAAOOU and This Person Did... please in the future hire people who actually like people...
If you haven't figured it out, DGX is Dollar General. Yes, those Dollar Generals that are dotted all over rural America. DGX is the upscaled version. This DGX is right on Water Street. This is not a store you would normally drive to, since it is right in downtown with no private parking lot. It caters to downtown folks that live in the condos and apartments, along with visitors.DGX is very clean and has everything you would expect to see at a regular Dollar General. The wine and beer selection is significantly better. They also have fresh produce. They are catering to the local population. I love the self checkout stations and Apple Pay option.
