I’d highly recommend the peanut stew (add tofu) and the assorted mushrooms, but also, no reason to believe anything is worse! Check the vegan section on the back of the menu, they’ve got basically everything in a vegan version. Do be prepared to wait a bit. P.S. don’t sleep on that hot sauce!! Dedicated vegan section in the menu. The spicy okra and spinach dish with fufu is great. I usually get some plantains to go with it.
We had an excellent lunch in akadi and divided four entrees between four adults. most of the excellent African cuisine in portland is from horn, so it was great to have something from the west. we remember very much baobab (senegal) years ago, but akadi (cote d’ivoire) is much better for vegans. the mafe and the yassa were delicious, especially with fufu. the gofu (tofu in a spicy red sauce) was my favorite. and the pfeffer soup cut the cold winter day. we didn't leave food back. we look forward to going back and try the okra/spinach and the other tofu court. excellent and friendly service.
I ordered the Shosho, which is black peas cooked in caramelized onion, tomato stew and served with rice. It was good, but it was sweeter than I expected.
Akadi has so many incredible vegan options that it is difficult to order. I chose a page of Plantains, peanut stew with fufu, puffs (vegan donuts! and ginger limonade. The Plantains were the star, but everything was excellent. There was also more than enough food for two people. Definitely book if you plan on a weekend!
