Cafe Nell - Portland

Overall we had a good experience at Nell’s and would come back in the future! the drinks and enticings were delicious. but a couple of things stand for other wise: the cheese plate was not worth it, it was a long time waiting for our escape (it was 45 minutes after we ordered when they finally arrived) and the table next to us was incredibly loud and laborious (it is a cozy dining room and our table was right next to them) which is not the fault of the restaurants, but unfortunately it is for us less pleasant. next time I want to sit in the bar or outside when the weather is warmer!

As we expect when we feed in cafe nells, it was very good. we are frequent dinners at nell’s and have never been disappointed. lunch and dinner. great hotel

Not a place I would ever go back to…Two of us went for brunch. Chairs were wobbly. Ambience reasonable but very noisy. Food menu much shorter than licor offerings. Ordered coffee and two dishes vegan hash for $17 and shrimp and grits for $24. Coffee was ok but served with no teaspoons to add cream or sugar. Waited for a while and decided to ask the server at the bar for spoons. “Will bring them as soon as I can” in a sassy tone. A long while later she brought the spoons after we had already drank more than half a cup. She never smiled once. Food arrived reasonably fast but served without silverware had to ask for it. The servings were tapas size but tasty. Ordered a berry crisp for dessert. The crisp was not thicker than a book cover and had 3 blueberries in it. It was mostly oatmeal served in a cast iron pan barely warm. The crisp had a strong metal taste. We ate less than half since the metal taste was so strong. The server told us she will remove the charge from the bill. The bill came back with a $10 charge for the horrible quasi mixed berry crisp. We complained to the manager who refused to remove the charge since we ate some of it. In summary, limited menu, poor service, top price for small portions and a terrible tasting desert. I suggest you find a different place to dine!!
