During our visit, there were many cruise tourists eating at the restaurant, as dining options are limited within the park. The dining area is a large outdoor covered shed with long communal tables. The buffet style dining has a casual atmosphere. The main dishes on offer were limited, with options like barramundi filet and chicken, along with basic salads. There is a good selection of beer, soft drinks, and other beverages available. The cheesecake received positive feedback, although some felt the portion size was small for the price. The staff was friendly and the restroom facilities in a separate building were clean.
The café is basically a small building with a metal roof and dirt floors. The open sides allow for some air circulation, although it was quite hot when we visited. A clever idea to keep the salads cool was using frozen water bottles in glass display cases. Customers could choose from a variety of simple salads and sliced meats, although I would have preferred more unique ingredients. Watermelon was also available. Overall, it was just okay. Free tea and coffee were offered nearby, and you could opt for a dessert for an additional cost.
This was a lunch stop-over for lunch on a recent visit to the Litchfield National Park whilst on a day tour of the area on a Celebrity Solstice cruise ship shore excursion. It was a very hot day when we were there, but we were able to get seating near a fan in an outdoor "lean-to" area set aside for bus tour groups. The food was buffet style and we had to line up and help ourselves, then sit at long tables. It was "rough and ready" lunch style eating and the food was average.
Litchfield National Park is great. It will give you memories of waterfalls and crystal clear streams and lush vegetaion. Yet, if you stop at Litchfield cafe and try the mango cheescake, you will gain a culinary expeience to be remembered for a life time!
