The wings were tasty, but with only three pieces per order, I wouldn’t say they’re the best value at $3. My partner enjoyed a green apple slush with pearls, which was delightful! We ended our meal with a black bean dessert, but that was a bit forgettable—it reminded me more of sweetened black beans you’d find in a Mexican restaurant. I wouldn’t order that again. Overall, our lunch came to $30 for two, including tax and tips, which is a pretty good deal. The restaurant has a sleek, comfortable atmosphere, though the service was a bit distracted at times.
I wasn't expecting fantastic service, but the staff were very attentive and friendly! I really enjoyed my favorite laksa noodle soup, and I opted for fish fillet and tofu as toppings. The toppings were fresh and of great quality as well.
**Japanese-style Takoyaki ($5.99):** These were perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, while soft and fluffy on the inside. Each ball contained a tender piece of tako (octopus) in the center. They were generously drizzled with mayonnaise and takoyaki sauce, and topped with dried bonito flakes. These make for a delicious savory snack, reminiscent of what you’d find at the Richmond Night Market. I highly recommend the **Signature Noodle Combo ($9.95)**, which we always order. You get to choose the soup base or sauce, the type of noodles, two toppings (additional toppings are $1.59 each), and a drink. My favorite is the Malay laksa soup with rice noodles and slices of beef brisket. The laksa soup is creamy and rich with coconut and curry flavors. The noodles are cooked al dente, and the brisket slices are tender and flavorful—perfectly balanced between lean and fatty. On this visit, Baby-Paca chose beef tripe for our other topping, but they only gave us a few pieces, and they were fairly standard. On subsequent visits, we simply opted for double brisket because it was so delicious. The bowl of noodle soup is also filled with Chinese cabbage and a few slices of abalone mushroom. We always pair it with hot milk tea, which has a strong tea flavor, just like authentic HK milk tea. The **Pan-Fried Rice Cakes with Yaki Pork in X.O. Sauce ($10.59)** isn’t one of our usual picks, but it proved to be quite good. The rice cakes were soft and pleasantly chewy, absorbing the flavor of the sauce they were cooked in. The pork slices were flavorful and tender. Bubble waffles fall into the category of foods that Baby-Paca and I can never get enough of. The bubble waffles ($4.59) at Cattle Cafe are well-made, though a bit pricey compared to other places. They are lightly crisp on the outside with a soft, chewy center, packed with sweet, eggy goodness. Curious about the **Ice Cream with Black Glutinous Rice ($3.99)**, we decided to try it out. Unfortunately, the ice cream tasted like generic store-bought vanilla—nothing special. The glutinous rice was somewhat coarse and grainy, lacking the desired stickiness. Service was quick and efficient, but don’t expect anything beyond that. The portion sizes are on the smaller side for the prices typical of an HK-style cafe, but most of the food I’ve tried here has been decent. Just a heads-up: finding parking can be a bit of a hassle.
Having discovered Cattle Cafe last summer, I was more than eager to return to the restaurant for lunch the next day. But it wasn't until we called to make a reservation that we discovered that the Richmond location had closed down. Consequently, we set out for their Burnaby location instead; this actually worked out quite well, as it allowed for a short period of shopping to be done at Metrotown before returning to Richmond to prepare for dinner.
Ben recommended me the Fish Noodle. I had the Laksa broth version with artificial crab stick and squid. I like the springy texture of the fish noodle. There were some tofu puff in it too.
