The main rib was FANTASTIC, your mouth will thank you even if your waist is not. The salad was fresh and crisp and a perfect appetizer, and unfortunately I left my slice of chocolate cake in the car and could not enjoy it. The service was just as good as the food, everyone being as friendly and attentive. And while the atmosphere was not quite calm, it was certainly positive and there was a current good feeling in the air. Very recommended the main rib! One of the best I ever had!
For six years I thought of eating at Original Joe’s, but for reasons that are not yet known to me, I could not find a chance to actually feed here. Today, after I went to another state for a year, I returned to the place where I was called home for six years, and actually dined here. The place looks just like what was described in 2014 on the new student city leader of SJSU: classic, but not old. The food? Although it is definitely not the most authentic Italian food, it tastes good. Although I have no Italian blood in my family, the food tastes just as my parents would have done. It tastes like at home, and it is uniquely delicious. I am an international student, and that means that there is a good chance that I will not be able to stay, work and live in the United States after my conclusion. And as I moved from San Jose, I will not be able to return to this place for a second round meal. This thought has scared me a little, and I can't help but shatter some tears during my visit. It was a bit unpleasant, but I'm glad I did. Because that's exactly what I felt in this place, and I wish I'd be back one day and get some good pastas and desserts.
I was very surprised. We had different expectations from outside. The tube melt was really good, and the pasta was good. The waiter was helpful, but not very committed. There are parking spaces nearby (90 min free, iirc).
If you like Italian food, go there. They won't be disappointed. Also, despite the fact that the place was packed when my group of 5 arrived, they sat us immediately. Definitely recommend.
The classic is still open and doing a brisk business at least during my visit on a Wednesday evening. It had been over a decade since my last stop at original Joe's and now dating back 50 plus years as a family favorite. Prices have gone up do not expect a bargain meal but you don't feel cheated with the value and the size of the portions. Excellent service continues through the generations of staff. Prime rib was solid disregard many of the comments you might see here about gristle and poor quality there was nothing wrong with this piece of meat.
