Sandgate Chinese Restaurant

We have been getting takeout from this Chinese restaurant for over 20 years! We always order the same dishes and are hardly ever let down. The spring rolls are fantastic, the fried rice is delicious, and the crispy lemon chicken never disappoints. The prices are very reasonable, and the takeout meals are always tasty. We don't recommend dining in as the atmosphere is lacking, but the takeout is excellent.

I noticed that several people in the kitchen were rolling spring rolls without wearing gloves, and they frequently wiped their noses and faces with their hands. They also moved the trash bin around without washing their hands, indicating a lack of proper food handling practices. When it came time to pay, the owner told the young lady to take care of my bill, but he insisted I still pay for the spring rolls in cash, despite them being off. I ultimately paid using EFTPOS but did not receive any discount. The owner should make sure that all of his employees adhere to food safety and other regulations. I will not be returning to this restaurant due to the poor treatment I received and the subpar quality of the spring rolls. Disappointing.

The restaurant does not make an effort to create an inviting atmosphere for diners. There is a general sense of uncleanliness. Upon returning home and opening our takeout, we discovered a fly in our meal. When we called to complain, we were informed that flies are unavoidable and that they cannot prevent them. Although a refund was offered, we chose not to accept it. Additionally, the absence of an Eat Safe rating displayed is concerning.

A little gem in Sandgate, popular with locals. Eat in or takeaway options available . Inside of the restaurant needs a refurbishment, but food definitely does not. Plenty of options on the menu. Delicious Chinese food which left us both with full belly’s. Fast friendly service. Will definitely be back.

We ordered 2 chow mein takeaway meals tonite and were both very satisfied. Friendly staff, very tasty food, and the meals came out very quickly. The decor is either very retro or very dated, but certainly a clean and comfortable dining area. It’s how I remember Chinese takeaway from my teen years and we will be back again and again.
