It is a taco truck, so it is the right atmosphere if you know what to expect. Nothing fancy, but clean picnic tables that are covered. The temp that day was hot but dry, so in the shade, it was quite comfortable. I ordered the tacos. They came five to plate for $9. The best part is that they allowed me to mix and match what fillings I wanted. Many tacquerias do not allow this! The sad news was that they were out of carnitas! A beautiful, well-dressed young woman behind me said she came for the carnitas as well! We both ordered alternatives anyway. The trepitas were well seasoned and crispy. The barbacoa was generous, and the El pastor was the perfect balance of savory red cchile with the sweet tangibess of pinapple. The staff let me substitute beans for the rice. The beans were soft and savory, but the cahier suggested that next time you try the rice. This betrayed a certain confidence that she was not only certain I would be back, but that she was sure the rice was good. While I was eating, several people came to pick up orders: working people, people from the neighborhood. The owners poke with people in spanish. He gave me a look and a smile. I asked in spanish: Porque no carnitas? (Why no carnitas? He answered in English: They had run out, it a as late in the day, they would have them tomorrow. The friendliness, the pride, and the quality of the food were the atmosphere I needed.
Best place for Tacos in Socorro. The rice they serve with it is amazing.
I got the 5 tacos... got 2 Carne Asada, 2 Barbacoa and 1 AL Pastor. They were AWESOME! I love tacos and Mexican food. It was great to have some authentic, real Mexican food. Down here in Socorro I am seeing the term New Mexican . Either way these tacos were some of the best I ever had. The Carne Asada was some of rhe best I ever had but was slightly greasy. Great flavor on everything. Red green sauce was excellent. Red was certainly more spicy.
GO HERE! This is the best place in Socorro! It was wonderful and such a great value! The only downside is that they close when they run out of food, and they are so popular I was only able to go once in a week. Just couldn't get back in time. The carnitas and Al pastor were probably the best flavors of those I have ever had anywhere! The taco plate comes with rice and a grilled poblano. This was great because the tacos were so stuffed a bunch of meat fell out and I was able to make a delicious rice hash : bonus meal!
I love eating at Mi Jacalito! The food is always delicious, and the owners are so friendly and welcoming. We are blessed to have an establishment like this in Socorro! Highly recommend!
