Luben's Pizza - Shepway

Have eaten here a couple of times, nice big restaurant in the heart of folkestone. Love the hummus and sour dough bread starter which is big enough to share (you can ask for more bread free of charge). Can't recall the mains but I know we left happy and full.

I went to Luben's with a friend I hadn't seen in 5 years, looking forward to a relaxing meal. We were the only two people in the restaurant, which seemed promising for a peaceful dining experience, but unfortunately, that was not the case. Despite an impressive menu with many vegan and allergy-friendly options, the restaurant failed to deliver on these promises. My friend ordered vegan mac 'n cheese, but it actually contained meat. When we complained, the waitress apologized but shifted the blame to the kitchen. She offered to prepare a vegan dish and gave us drinks as an apology. However, my friend's replacement dish arrived cold, suggesting it had been defrosted instead of properly cooked. We were extremely disappointed with the service and food quality. After voicing our concerns, the waitress refused to take responsibility and offered only a partial refund for my half-eaten meal. We decided to pay and leave. When we later spoke to a manager, he was apologetic, but the lack of accountability from the staff was concerning. Overall, our experience at Luben's was disappointing and left us feeling unsatisfied.

The pizza at this restaurant is excellent. The meatballs were decent, but the standout dishes were the sauce and garlic bread. The staff were friendly and helpful. The portion sizes of the pizza are large, so you'll likely need to take some home. I'm looking forward to returning and trying the vegan Mac n Cheese.

Luben creates their own sourdough pizza bases and bakes them in a large wood fired oven that is visible at the back of the restaurant. The process is impressive and the dough is some of the best I have ever tasted. For a small additional charge, you can opt for vegan cheese and customize your toppings. The cheese they use may be Mozzarisella, as it has a similar taste. They also offer a gluten free option. Additionally, they now offer delivery through Deliveroo.
