Staff are great, super ,friendly service and amazing food. The outside area has amazing views and is well kept. Ample parking and in great location. Thoroughly recommend.
Bit of a mixed bag. Overall the service was okay. Not exceptional or not rubbish, just okay. Didn’t get off to a great start when we arrived as the table we had specifically reserved had people sitting on it. When I asked about this they just said sorry !! What’s the point in booking a specific table if you’re going to ignore the customers request ? Restaurant was quiet to start with but then filled up with people who had been sitting out in the terrace drinking . Not the greatest ambience when you’re sitting having an expensive meal and a group come in drinking pints and then get a pizza served to them when they’re sitting a couple of feet away from you… The food was okay but a bit heavy. I had a steak that was basically a solid lump of meat which was tough and not cooked as requested. I couldn’t be bothered complaining about it as I was really hungry by that time but it was not worth the price over 28 when you include nearly for a tiny pot of sauce.. Another table also had a problem as they couldn’t even eat their steak nor one of the other meals. They were local and complained to the staff who then gave them money off. Won’t be back here in a hurry unfortunately.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would... We called ahead to book a table for 5 people at 17:30. Upon arrival we had high hopes as the grounds were stunning however, when entering the establishment we approached the bar to be met by a very distracted barmaid who was more interested in watching the Grand National. She barely managed to peel her eyes away from the TV to answer us when we stated we had booked a table for 17:30. Just then another man came over and told us that they were shut so that they could watch the rest of the Grand National and that we would have to wait. Before any of us could even reply, he scuttled back of to stare at the TV completely ignoring the fact that they has left our group to stand and wait around without being seated (please note we arrived at 17:30 exactly). As a group consisting of a baby a heavily pregnant lady, this is not something that we were prepared to do. They genuinely seemed more interested in watching the TV than tending to their customers and should not have allowed us to book a table for that time if they weren't actually able to commit to it for the sake of watching TV. Maybe a blessing in disguise as your menu looked as though you has put similar effort into honouring our booking. Luckily we managed to secure a booking at the Pheasant not too far away which I highly recommend!
New Year’s Eve, buffet everything served cold including spring rolls (duck and vegetable) greasy ice cold, scotch eggs black, ran out of plates children throwing what looked like play dough around the food area also jumping around as people tried to serve themselves at the buffet, music which was the entertainment very loud so everyone had to shout, badly run it was more like child minding by the owners of either their or family friends kids, than a New Year, the place needs a good clean it certainly needs better management
We live locally and have been going to Uplands for about 3 years now for drinks and/or dinner. Sadly, as said by another reviewer, it seems to have lost its sparkle. We were there last night for dinner. The service from Lorraine and Matthew was as fantastic as ever and they work so hard. Unfortunately the food was fairly average and when the owner came over to ask if everything was OK, he seemed rather the worse for wear and was definitely swaying and slurring! Sadly I'm not sure if or when we'll be going back again.
