Staff were attentive and worked out what my friend who has an intolerance to onion and garlic could happily eat with no problems at all. We also had a great bottle of Georgian white wine which we had never tried before.
We received a lovely warm welcome! Shown to our table and offered drinks by a sweet and friendly young waitress. Our Sunday lunches were hot, tasty and generous. We all enjoyed them . The pub is very efficiently run , clean and warm . Lovely !
Nine of as for lunch arrive for a 1200 meal. Lovely surroundings and atmosphere. Had the great tasting draught beer. He all had the Sunday lunch, roast pork, Roast beef served pink and roast chicken, all came with roast potatoes and large Yorkshire pudding. Vegetables in three serving dishes plenty for us. All were perfectly cooked looked and tasted delicious. Deserts very good very light apple crumble and custard, Panna cotta with rhubarb sauce and chocolate brownies. Again wonderful. Will have to go again soon.
We called in after Ampton races, as we had before, and managed to secure a table. It was busy. We both ordered a roast. I am fussy about my vegetables, and cannot abide red cabbage nor cauliflower cheese on the plate, so enquired as to what was coming out. The young man affirmed that both were on the dish, so I asked they be brought out separately, which he said wouldn't be possible. WHY?? Plates came out, roast beef, roast potatoes and Yorkshire were perfect, but the bowl of veg, with 5 different elements in a cereal sized bowl, all crowded and my 2 unwanted elements spoiling the rest was just annoying. To cap it off, the carrots were cut too large and undercooked, and had gone brown at one end. Then my guest discovered a hair in her roast chicken... All of this was fed back to the server at the end of the meal, and she deducted my guest's dish from the bill, which is fair enough. However, if the arrogant young man who took our order had listened to my preference, at least the vegetables would have been more manageable to put on the plate... So disappointing, as our previous visit in January was faultless.
Hidden gem! We ventured out of our Centre Parcs stay on the hunt for a good roast and we definitely did find it. We called around midday and they managed to get us in! The staff were all so lovely and the service was exceptional! To top it off the food was delicious! My partner said it was the best bit of beef he has had in a while! I totally agree. We even saved some room for dessert and the gingerbread pudding was so lovely! Perfect for a winter evening. 4 of us said we will definitely be returning for sure!
