At the beginning of November, the autumn did not want to be beaten with a glowing sunshine, and my wife and I, like many other Münster countries, would lure into the sunshine and again on the bike. We started without great planning and planned to eat something. In the refrigerator there was another navy tea fillet waiting for the evening. At noon we were in Bad Bentheim, and of course the idea came for lunch in Keiling. This is how Wilhelmstraße went to Keiling. Empfing us with open door, unfortunately not with open kitchen. Ms. Duesmann had closed the restaurant on Sunday on the basis of a larger company on the eve and received us with civilians to clean up. That was a shame, of course, and we were looking for an alternative. Wilhelmstraße went up again and we saw the sunny terrace of the restaurant Alter Bismarck. The restaurant was known to us as a provider of good-bourgeois cuisine, and we never had the urge to return there. In summer it is very popular with our Dutch neighbours because of the central location and you will not get any space on the terrace from morning to evening. And in contrast to us, the Dutch visitors find Bad Bentheim's distinct, petty-bourgeois cuisine Ferse erg leuk, they are in the majority on Schnitzel cuisine to say it in German. But we just wanted a little, and the sun seemed to be tempted on the open places of the terrace. My wife saw homemade pumpkin soup on the day map and approved with a parking space the choice of Bismarck for our lunch. The terrace is located between the higher Burgstraße and the lower Wilhelmstraße and is also fully exposed by the sun in late autumn at the southern slope of Bentheim. Despite the late date you sat comfortably outside without freezing. The ambience of the terrace was already true, and a view into the interior of the restaurant did not make a complaint. There you saw a healthy bistroambient. The card was handed over by the service, and we saw the expected good-bourgeois cuisine. Very much meat dishes, unexpectedly numerous fish dishes, salads, small snacks and a few appetizers and desserts can be seen on the map of the homepage, of course bilingual D-NL, as everywhere in Bad Bentheim. The vegetarian or even vegan will not be so fast here, but whoever likes meat in all variations can be happy. We just wanted to bite, my wife had already put herself on the pumpkin soup, I couldn't really decide, nothing jumped into my eye and woke my cravings culinary. In the end my eye was stuck with the specialties of the house. There was Stipp in de Pann, a really very local court of county Bentheim. In my childhood it was a meal of slaughter when the slaughterer came to the farms, and the pigs hanged on the barbarians. There was always a tip in de Pann, a spicy flour sweat with an ointment bacon and meat residue of slaughter. Smelled by the large pan with bread, this was always a social pleasure. I haven't had that for a long time. So I ordered it despite the very sporting price of almost 20 EUR. What was then served to me was a strong disappointment. Perhaps the kitchen wants to bring the noble variant to people, but the result has little in common with the original. Too much fried lumbs, no fried bacon. The sweat was well tasted, with inlaid cucumbers were a good idea that was a good supplement. Even though there are probably countless variations of the recipe, I did not like this tip in the pan. And one! The roasted mixed bread was a small frying of the kitchen. Stipping didn't go with so little bread. The side salad was ok, fresh, crisp and with a good Vinaiigrette. For almost EUR 20, PLV definitely did not vote. My wife rated her soup with an ok, well lubricated with curry, but the fruitiness in the soup was missing. Eat a perfectly tapped pils. The service was tidy and friendly. Conclusion: Something very good-bourgeois cuisine, without great ambitions. Those who no longer expect will not be disappointed here. Personally, however, the kitchen is somewhat useless. We don't have to go back.
Determined to enjoy after visiting the castle something carving, and that was the next place service was friendly and fast, eating delicious super and serving were on the big side, so no complaining, everyone enjoyed their meal.
Visited bad bentheim with friends from holland. had coffee and strudel here, which was excellent.
I don't know what to think about restaurant old bentheim. if they expect to have a hearty and tasty food, freshly prepared from high-quality ingredients, as in thousands of German hoefe throughout the country, this expectation is not fulfilled. don't get me wrong. eating is not so bad, but the presentation is on the market and the prices are quite steep for a German restaurant. because the restaurant really lies under the smoke of the castle bentheim, directly opposite, I think that the tourism has influenced the performance and pricing of the restaurant old bentheim next time in bad bentheim I will continue looking for a lunch place.
The old bentheim has a pretty nice terrace right in front of the castle. good sunshades on a hot day. staff very friendly and helpful, eating came quite fast. drink in good size. spontaneously ask if they want water with the wine. could only pay money... all because the card reader couldn't get any connection.
