We have extra paid to the 2 bedrooms (connected with bathroom) option, so we have a separate place from our children for some extra private sphere. we also chose this room because of the kamine each room had. the door locks didn't work. the kamine did not work and the maintenance had no idea how to work. both rooms melt like wet dog and mold. we travel a lot and often stay in rustic cabins, even without bathroom. we often camp so that we do not fear rustic, but that goes over “rustic”. while the room (bed linen) was clean, it felt very down and dirty overall. the rooms were hot, which deteriorated the smell. I wouldn't stay here again. I would stay in skyland instead. we were in rooms 45
My friend and I have brought our grand to big meadows lodge in the shenandoah national park. we loved it! the room was simple, but sufficient for our two-night stay. it was clean and the beds were comfortable. the bathroom was
This is a magnificent location with magnificent sunset view of the mountains of the haupt lodge. eating is decent. the rooms themselves are quite simple, but stay in the park and look at these sunsets more than does on the sorta crappy bathroom (but they must seriously update their shower heads.)
Aramark used to run this when they had the contract with Shenandoah National Park. Delaware North got the contract a few years ago and it hasn't been the same since. I don't mind the remodel as it makes more sense to have the restaurant facing the meadow as opposed to the parking lot, but the food isn't what it used to be. You could actually get a real, home-cooked meal a few years ago. Now it's garbage. Also, we went camping there over Fourth of July weekend and the restaurant was closed the entire time....during a HOLIDAY WEEKEND. The store has the basic necessities and the gift shop hasn't seemed to change much. It's the restaurant that's the big disappointment. As you can tell from the other reviews, I'm not alone.
