Great selection of high quality pastries and beautiful cakes. Nice location in the middle of town centre.
I have been to many Patisserie Valerie branches and have always been very impressed with the quality of food and service. We went with a voucher recieved as a wedding present. No booking required. We arrived and handed in the voucher and a huffy woman asked if we had booked, no we hadn 't. She the said she would need to check the voucher and it would be a minimum of a 20 minute wait. We then said that one of us was vegetarian, this again provoked more huffiness, as we should have ordered if we required a special diet. I asked for my voucher back in that case and we would ge elsewhere and use it at another branch, she calmed a little and explained that they only had Egg and cucumber sandwiches available as they don 't have a kitchen. We explained that we were happy JUST to have the egg and cucumber sandwiches and didnt require anything special. We then were told to sit down and she would bring tea once she had checked the voucher. On sitting down we suddenly realised that one of the sandwiches she had mentioned was tuna, my husband doesnt like fish at all so decided to go and say that we 'd apprecciate the tuna being left off... MORE HUFFINESS, we weren 't asking for anything EXTRA, jsut for the tuna to be left off and extra ham or something. The Afternoon tea arrived afirly quicklyn and we were told if we wanted more tea or coffee to go up and ask for it. There definietly isnt a high level of customer service here. The staff were rude and unwelcoming in the extream. There were many 'A ' boards up around the perimeter of the cafe advertsing Afternoon tea so preumably they accept walk ins? The food quality was ok nothing special at all but acceptable but it left a bad taste in our mouths due to the poor service. In hindsight I wish I had got the voucher returned and gone elsewhere saving the voucher for a visit to another branch.
I received a groupon for tea for 2, no need to book. Went with my granddaughter, saying we were going for a cake. Excited almost 3 year old. Arrived at 11.40 and said I had a groupon voucher. The girl serving asked another woman who was sat having coffee on outside of serving unit. She came back and said no we are not doing this. I said the voucher needed to be used and she returned the the woman on outside of counter who I then assumed was the manager, then came back and said we couldn’t use the voucher. We were not offered any other food/ cake in replacement. Firstly if that was the manager, she had no customer service training, she should of spoken to me herself. Secondly, a different offer would of been helpful. My daughter that bought me the voucher did phone and complain once I got home and she was offered a free lunch the following week.
Friendly, efficient staff and a good selection of hot/cold drinks and cakes, pastries, etc. Good position in the centre of The Square for people-watching.
