I had lunch at the restaurant and enjoyed a delicious homemade soup with Welsh rarebit. I can't wait to go back again soon.
We visited this restaurant over the weekend for lunch, but I have to say we won't be returning. One person ordered a Caesar salad, which was basically a pile of lettuce with chicken on top. The ploughman's platter was also disappointing and overpriced. I was expecting a mix of salad, cheese, ham, and bread, but what arrived had too much tomato and celery, a small amount of cheese, half a slice of ham, and only two portions of butter. The chutney was the only highlight. One member of our group ordered beans and egg on toast, but only received beans on toast when the egg was questioned. Despite the receipt clearly stating egg on toast with beans, the staff insisted they no longer served it. Another member of our group had ham, egg, and chips, so it would have been simple to add the eggs to the beans dish. We also ordered a hot drink, but it was not included in the bill. We were a group of 10, including 7 adults with learning disabilities, and a little bit of flexibility from the staff would have been appreciated.
We were disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. We ordered drinks and cakes, but our drinks arrived before the cakes did. We had to chase them down. Other customers who arrived after us received their cakes before we did. There were 10 empty tables around us that had not been cleared. The staff seemed unhappy. Overall, it was not a good experience and it seems to have declined since being taken over by Hilliers.
Met up with family on Sunday, food was incredible and really good portion size, staff were so friendly and food arrived with hardly any wait. I made a mistake and didn’t order one meal of the party, manager came over and she got this rushed through, highly recommend.
Disappointing ploughman’s lunch. At £13.99 it was basically unimaginatively plonked on a plate, the ‘artisan’ bread tasted like a cheap roll, tasteless tomato . I am adding a photo and to compare and contrast a photo of a ploughman’s from Combe Garden Centre which was only one penny more at £14. Please have pride in your kitchen and deliver something to be proud of!
