Wonderful, unpretentious dining. I had to google what the different menu items listed were, but that was part of the fun for me. My meal came out fast and was exactly what the doctor ordered for my scratchy throat. Broth was great and the soba noodles were too.Food: 5/5
Top services, very authentic and great taste (went with the combo soba)
On the second day of my trip to California with my friends from Seattle, we were looking for a quick and simple lunch spot when we stumbled upon a Japanese udon restaurant that served hot, savory broth. The atmosphere reminded me of a restaurant I used to frequent in a Korean neighborhood, which made me feel comfortable and at ease. The unique udon menu items we saw on offer were also very impressive and something I had never seen before in Seattle or Korea. Most importantly, the broth was exactly to my liking, so it didn't feel too heavy as my first meal of the day, and the staff were all very friendly and kind. Despite the Seattle-like cloudy and chilly weather, my body and mind were warmed up, and I felt great.
It's a quaint little mom and pop shop in Old town Torrance next to the Foster's Freeze. I want them to stay open forever. So please come out and support. You order and pay at the counter. Then self seat and they bring your order out. They have a station for complimentary water and hot and cold barley tea. They have different kinds of soba and udon which you can have hot or cold and rice bowls. You can add sides and different toppings. I was overwhelmed so I picked one of the combos and added tempura.Friend got the kakiage rice. The kakiage was GIGANTIC. I'd never seen kakiage that big before. She seemed to like it.Other friend on the niku udon with ontama. That came first and it smelled so good. Honestly wished I had gotten that. But I can never resist katsudon so I got the pork katsudon soba combo with a side of tempura. Katsudon was good. Bowl was on the mini side but it comes with a plate of soba. You'll be fine if you don't add tempura like me. The tempura was okay. Not as crunchy as I expected. Came with shrimp, pumpkin, sweet potato, eggplant, and shishito. I enjoyed it. After you're done eating, bring your trays to the shelves by the counter. :
