The restaurant is very picturesque and the decor is definitely Peruvian with an eclectic atmosphere. The walk to the restaurant is beautiful with flowers and other vegetation. The... within very clean and colorful, but very tasteful. The Adobe style fireplace is very unique with its small stones and rounded edges. The food in La Casa De Barro was excellent. We had Pina Coladas when we arrived and the staff was very friendly and the service was wonderful. We had trout with barley and it was very delicious and well seasoned. Others in our group had the beef and it also looked delicious. We had the tres leche cake for dessert and it was a Peruvian joy. Our lunch in La Casa De Barro was very unforgettable and we would recommend it to everyone in the area.
Behind the steel door gates from the dirt-side street is a lovely little utopia of a restaurant. La Casa de Barro, surrounded by beautiful gardens, offers large windows to see the Andes mountains. The building has two stories and recalls a beautiful family house where you are treated as an honored guest. The food is unbelievable, but absolutely delicious! I loved every idiot! I love this place!
Family business restaurant, nice warm bread with 2 dips followed by delicious set meal, I had chickens cerviche in a lime and orange sauce for appetizers then grilled trout in a gooseberry sauce, both sauces had similar glutinous texture, but they tasted...others and were beautiful. To pudding a refreshing passion fruit mousse . The 4 year old son dressed in his chefs outfit to serve us our main courses. Good farewell
Splitting a long drive, we pulled into La Casa with high hopes... The lodge is picturesque and quaint, decorated with meticulous attention to detail, in a lovely setting with well tended garden. Looks like a place one would want to book in for some R&R....Our group of 10 had the restaurant to ourselves at late lunchtime, however, the service was, at best, lackluster (I missed the eye rolling that caused some in our group to be less generous in their assessment . Of our soups and entrees, four were over salted to the point of inedibility. The 2 chicken breast entrees were so dry they should never have been served. (I wouldn't even have tried to use them for soup, and the hungry young athlete and big eaters with us who usually finished off everyone's meals couldn't/wouldn't/didn't eat them. My alpaca steak was hardly recognizable: thin, grey and tough. The spaghetti with apple sauce two people ordered was missing the apples and tasted even weirder than it sounds (not something I'd have ordered, but said to be a classic dish . Three entrees were a hit, including the pork chops, which were very good. The purple corn drink was good, though getting the refill took some time. The bread was very good, but basket was never refilled despite requests (perhaps too many of us needed it- I don't usually eat bread, but did here . After the first and second course issues, no one ordered dessert. All in all, one of the least satisfying meals in country. On the up side, no one got sick.
Some times is not easy to find a place to eat before getting to Urubamba, but the Casa de Barro is a nice option. You feel at home and the owners are very friendly and ready to satisfy your desires to eat.
