This restaurant is the real thing if you like Cambodian with a Thai influence. The owner a refugee from Kumar Rouge is glad to visit with you and suggest great dishes. the Green Papaya salad was the best I have ever had and the beef sashimi salad also great hot dishes can b mild medium or hot with plenty of hot spices available. No liquor license, can't say BYO, but if your discrete they won't mind.
I happened to find this restaurant via Google because my favourite Cambodian restaurant in the old Chinatown was closed today. We ordered 3 items: 1) the lemongrass pork on rice, 2) Phnom Penh dry egg noodles and 3) French Ice Coffee. The lemongrass was missing the "Bi" which was the shredded pork skin, and also tomatoes. I say this because I pointed this out to the waiter on the menu (item# 31). In the picture was a beautifully arranged dish with "Bi", a side of tomatoes, cucumber, a sunny side egg, and a cut of lemongrass pork. What arrived was 2 cuts of lemongrass pork drizzled with sauteed chopped green onions, cilantro, a sunny-side fried egg and a couple sliced cucumbers. I guess they made-up by adding more pork to the dish. They could have told us they were short on "bi" and tomatoes. That said, the pork was delicious and the side of soup and sweet chilli that accompanied it was awesome. The Phnom Penh dry egg noodles was equally as delicious. I now have a new place to enjoy this dish. I found their serving more generous than the one in Chinatown. The side of soup that came with the noodles was very satisfying. It came with pork bones filled with meat so tender they just fell off my chopsticks. The French ice coffee was a bit of a surprise. Usually they serve this in a cold glass filled with ice and condensed milk. A coffee filter will sit on top of the glass and the french roast will just drip into the ice. Instead the ice coffee came all mixed for you. Oh well, it still tasted similar but the fresh stuff is always better. What I strike was odd and some of you may be put-off by this was their choice of music. Who plays rave/house/gangsta music in a restaurant? Also, upon my visit to the washroom, the staff left a pail of dirty water and a mop right next to the toilet. It didn't really bother me because when I returned to my table I was able to glance quickly in their kitchen. Looks like they run a clean outfit. The staff and management here speak Cantonese also.Overall, I will recommend this place if you crave Cambodian food. I will return again to try their other dishes.
Did the chef call in sick that day, because that was a horrible meal. I'd seen good reviews for Angkor, so my girlfriend and I decided to try on Friday evening. It was completely empty, which isn't generally a good sign. I got the cambodian-style lemongrass beef. I can see how it could have been a delicious dish, but it tasted like the put in 5-10x too much lemongrass. My girlfriend's soup, on the other hand, was too watery and had very little flavor. I guess we should try it again since so many people seem to like it, but dang...
I've heard that this restaurant has a connection to Phnom Penh, but since it serves Cambodian cuisine, we decided to check it out. Unfortunately, it was just okay, but I do enjoy the food.
