I was pleasantly surprised by the menu, the attentive service, and the charming ambiance of the restaurant. I was also thrilled that the music was at a perfect volume for having a conversation. Even though it's not exactly convenient for me to get to, I will definitely be making the effort to return in the future.
I never realized there was a hidden street in Vancouver. On this street is this hidden gem. This restaurant is small but a great place for lunch. The menu is simply with really great food. The service is unpaid that the owner came by to make sure we are happy.
East of Main is where we like to gather with friends for dinner. It's a peaceful spot in Strathcona that is perfect for enjoying good conversation. The menu features traditional Catalan tapas, including tasty tortas and patatas bravas. Everything we tried was delicious. The wine list offers a lovely tempranillo along with local options. It's nice to support East of Main knowing that their profits go towards Project Limelight, a non-profit theater program for children.
East of Main offers tasty tapas, sharing plates and more essential entrées. Three flavors of us were very good on: zucchini slices with a tapenade of green manzanillo olives, parmesan and pistachios eggplants with a crispy currant couscous and seasoned with earthy peppers and cinnamon chickpea and kale salad with feta, chopped walnuts, roasted red peppers and garlic hot The cook has a very deft touch and never let any dish overpower with the spices. Server brought every new dish when we finished the last, so that we can really regain the individuality of the food. We liked the serenity of the room... no loud entertainment music. Local artists and photographers delivered the artwork on the walls. We look forward to visiting again... many more interesting and very inexpensive dishes still try.
I have visited this restaurant for lunch twice and dinner once, and each time the experience has been excellent. The food is delicious, offering a mix of traditional dishes and unique options for those looking to try something new. I have introduced six friends to this restaurant, all of whom have returned since. My son and daughter-in-law have even declared it their new favorite spot. What sets this place apart is that the profits go towards funding a drama school for kids in the Downtown Eastside and Strathcona neighborhoods who would not otherwise have access to such an opportunity.
