Xi Yan opened just recently (as of now, there is no rating cause of lack of votes and there is a 'Review us on Zomato ' sticker by the front of the restaurant. The food is very traditional and executed perfectly. <br/ <br/ Today was a special day so I ordered the abalone. The abalone was soft yet chewy, and texture-wise, it was really good. Abalone never has much taste- thank god for the inventor of abalone sauce. It is shiny and like a glaze- thick yet not cloying, and is similar to oyster sauce (but better! The choy sum, soaked in sauce, gave the veggies a juicy kick. <br/ <br/ Then quickly after came the lobster over glutinous rice. The lobster was flavorful, but I really liked the lobster-infused glutinous rice. All the lobstery flavor goodness, juices, and fragrances seeped into the rice making the rice absolutely MAGICAL. All the oil is not the healthiest, admittedly, but this rice is heaven. Later there were delicious golden almond cookies- they were not too sweet but they were deliciously crumbly and shiny too. <br/ <br/ The problem was that the food came a little rushed, making it seem like a really hurried dinner. But amazing classic Chinese restaurant.
Really Good! Good food service. Menu is really traditional and unique. Finless eel Rice is rare and delicious. Flavored goose is another bright spot. Orange peel bone is a must try.
We had to order a set menu for the Chinese New Year dinner at this restaurant. Unfortunately, the set menu did not include some of the dishes we wanted, so we had to order additional items. The seating was cramped, with me essentially sitting in the middle of the aisle. However, the quality of the food was good - it was hot, tasty, and well-presented. Despite being the busiest time of the year, the service was still good.
The food is fresh and delicious, the service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. I frequent this restaurant for their excellent dim sum offerings.
The restaurant isn't usually too crowded, so you're likely to find a table upon arrival, but booking 30 minutes to 1 hour in advance is recommended for a guaranteed seat. During lunchtime, the dim sum is delicious no matter what you choose, and the tea is of good quality without any damp aftertaste. At dinner, the portions are generous and the dishes are not overly greasy or full of MSG. Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're looking for excellent service, quick seating, and tasty food.
