While the vegan dishes are not clearly labeled on the menu, the friendly waitstaff were able to accommodate vegan requests. During my visit in August 2019, I enjoyed vegan options such as the Ilala garden salad and the spicy corn chickpea burger for lunch, and dishes like chickpea and lentil stew, palm salad, falafel, and chickpea curry for dinner. Although finding vegan options in Zimbabwe can be challenging, I was grateful to have discovered this gem through HappyCow and left the Palm Restaurant feeling satisfied and well-fed.
During our stay at Ilala Lodge, we inquired about vegan options for dinner. The waiter seemed confused about the distinction between vegetarian and vegan, so we spoke directly with the chef. He mentioned that he could modify the vegetarian dishes to make them vegan. Unfortunately, the selection was limited to only three options. The pasta was passable but overly sweet, the curry was average, and the falafel was a bit dry with no replacement for the dip.
I had some difficulty finding a place to eat while I was here, but I'm glad I found this one! The curry on the dinner menu was delicious and vegan-friendly.
Ilala hotel has many hardships, even vegan cheese from South Africa to make victoria if only Vegetar/Vegan burger. orte like three monkeys just don’t care about the corner (and still a fish-based sauce with their only “V” starter.) it’s a beautiful place to have a good price-effective vegan meal with other options on the menu as well.
