We ordered the truffle fries, which were good. They gentlemen that took our drink order told us about the specials and recommended we order the swordfish and the scallops. Which my husband ordered the scallops and I then ordered the swordfish. The scallops were delicious but only got 3 and the price was $42. The swordfish was mediocre at best. I was able to eat it as nothing on my plate had a taste of anything. Definitely don't recommend the swordfish at all. This was our anniversary dinner and I am disappointed. The restaurant was clean, friendly staff but too many servers with nothing to do but stand at the back of the restaurant close to our table. Which did make us uncomfortable. There was only 3 tables and there was over 5 servers standing with nothing to do plus the servers actually working and other staff.
Glass Onion is a cozy little spot in Weaverville. My husband and I made reservations for dinner on the last night of our Asheville trip after reading about this restaurant in a local food blog. The interior of the restaurant is intimate without feeling crowded, and had a definite old school vibe. Our server was wonderful and attentive, with great recommendations throughout our meal. We started with a bottle of Chianti, which was a nice accompaniment to our dinner. We sampled three appetizers, and liked the Warm Eggplant Caponata the most. This resembled a rustic ratatouille, and paired nicely with the crusty bread we were served after placing our order. The Bosc Pear Slow Roasted Beet Salad was good but not our favorite. We also tried the Grilled Peach Salad special, and were surprised that only the radicchio was grilled, not the peaches themselves. Our server told us that her favorite entree was the Housemade Fettuccini with Italian Sausage Ragu Fresh Ricotta, so we had naturally had to try it. This was a perfect recommendation the sauce was warm and comforting, and the handmade noodles were cooked to perfection. We cleaned the plate! My husband also ordered the Local Sunburst Trout, which he says was cooked well but a little plain. We also tried their Tiramisu for dessert, which was a nice way to end our meal. While the food was probably closer to three stars for us on this visit, our server 's friendliness and attentiveness made our experience all the more enjoyable. I think we would give the Glass Onion another chance the next time we 're in the area and just stick to their pasta offerings.
Decent food good service. Much better available for the price. Upscale Italian is a challenge around AVL but Cucina 24 Luminosa are good options.
Wow Weaverville! Outstanding Italian food ! Birthday Celebration, Started with Cocktails, Old Fashions and a Elderberry Fizz. Went on to have the most delicious Truffle Parm Fries, Calamari, and Garlic Knots. Ordered a Frogs Leap for wine with Dinner, delicious Caesar Salad and a Blue Cheese Salad. I had the Fresh Fettuccine with Sausage and Homemade Ricotta. It was wonderfully flavored but needed more Sausage. Another had Special Diver Scallops, Fresh and Sitting on Corn Polenta, another had the Seafood Ravioli, in a cream sauce. Made our little one fresh fettuccine with Butter and Parm , she ate every drop! Then Vanilla Creme Brûlée and Chocolate Mousse Cake for dessert! Incredible Meal!
