I ordered a pint of bitter and was surprised to see that it cost £5.60. This may explain why the pub was so empty on a Saturday evening. I want to support pubs during difficult times, but I can't do so if they charge excessive prices and lack hospitality.
Whenever I'm in Newbury, I always make sure to stop by The King Charles Tavern for their great selection of real ales. They always have a good variety, although there could be more options for dark beers.
Really nice pub and location in Newbury town centre. Always have good beers on, decent gin selection and the seating areas are really nice and cosy. For such a warm pub however, the staff from our recent experience leave you feeling cold. At a busy time we visited recently it felt like we were an inconvenience for making the place even busier going by the sighs from behind the bar. And then on our last visit, much quieter, we sat round the back only for the three female staff members to have a full on argument at full volume. Really hope those in charge read this and take on board the criticism as it only takes a smile, a welcome and arguments kept behind-closed-doors to make this really decent pub next level excellent. Hope to return.
Fabulous roast dinner at the KC today…. Friendly staff and excellent service. Would highly recommend the cauliflower cheese and the rice pudding with honeycomb
Always pop into The King Charles Tavern when in Newbury. We like the atmosphere, it's a proper pub, serving real ales though could do with more dark choices. Great 50s map on the ceiling.
