Waiter called one of our group granny which could have been offensive. She was not easily offended. Dinner was awkward. It's sad because the food was delicious but the service let it down. Breakfast at the same restaurant the same day was 5* . We reviewed this hotel as we were considering it for our wedding. We decided against it
After having a lovely Christmas Day Lunch in 2021, we booked again for 2022. Our 3pm sitting was running late we eventually were seated at 3.45. All four main courses were served barely lukewarm the 2 who were having the roast beef got only one slice of beef. Coffee was served minus milk sugar which we were told was coming, this appeared after 10 minutes by which time the coffee was cold. The cheeseboard was served with only 3 portions of cheese 4 tiny oatcakes. We complained about this more oatcakes cheese were brought to our table. All in all for £120 per head this was a total disappointment for our family of 4 will not be returning.
Had a disappointing and irritating dinner at The Pentland. Drab decor. Good looking stripped down menu. I had the chicken schnitzel prices at £19. If that was all I’d ordered it would’ve been a disaster. It was dry and small, slightly charred around the edges and very chewy. And that was all you got. I ordered the fries and cabbage, at £4.50. Without spendings the additional £9 I’d have probably been left really hungry. I hate this stealth charging. Feels dishonest. The cabbage was soaking in water. Some chard we ordered was brought out and was kale, salted to within an inch of its life The coconut rice pudding and roasted figs was only plural figs in as much as it had three slices of eighths of a fig and the rice was undercooked. Bread and butter pudding again a very small portion. I mentioned these things to the main server and the response was that my comments would be fed back to the executive chef. Jolly good
Dreadful, don’t waste your money. Possibly worst restaurant I’ve ever been to, service appalling and food just as bad
We are staying here for a night and the staff recommended The Pentland. Probably one of the most disappointing meals we have ever had and such sad end to our trip to Scotland. The food was bland and tasteless. I don’t rate my cooking, but even I could do better. Our waiter was friendly however the ice princess (hostess at the entrance) was frosty and rude. I enquired about gluten free options and she just shoved the menu at me and moved on to talk to others. I would hate for anyone to book this pricey restaurant for a special occasion as it’s definitely not worth it. As a side note there appeared to be cubes of auger scattered all around our table and others. Not sure what that was all about or if they just hadn’t cleaned. Bizarre!
