The Bowling Green - Wigan

The food was superb. We had a family meal for a birthday. The food was piping hot and delivered to the table in a timely manner. The menu was good value for money. 6 main meals and a starter for £91 The service was superb and the waiteress' couldn't help enough in terms of our party and their food allergies. Would highly recommend the proffesionalism of our hosts, Claudia and Emily were brilliant and made our trip out super enjoyable. We will definitely be back.

We had a fairly enjoyable lunch for two at this restaurant. The cold Guinness and glass of wine were lovely. The fish and chips with mushy peas were tasty and hot, although the fish was a bit sticky and stodgy inside the batter. We gave it another try on a second visit but found the fish to be the same. Despite this, we appreciated the good service from the staff and will come back to try something else on the menu. It's worth giving it a try and seeing what you think.

My boyfriend and I love going to the bowling green for some tea. Usually it’s a nice night, however this one night was diabolical. Restaurant was half empty but we was squeezed in between two tables of four, both tables were extremely loud and inconsiderate parties. We were only a table of two, there was many other places we could’ve been seated. Waitress (young, blonde) had a face like a slapped bottom! When we went up to order, i asked a simple question of if a certain item was cooked in the sauce or it came separately, she rolled her eyes and went into the kitchen to ask someone. The door was still open and I could hear the attitude coming from her which is obviously upsetting when it was a simple question. She then refused to serve us and someone else stepped in who was a great help (brunette, often see her in there). Food has always been lovely, broccoli could be done a little more but that’s the only thing i’ve ever noticed, compliments to the chef there. Throughout the whole time of eating, the two parties were still being extremely loud, squeezing out the tight spaces constantly which meant knocking our table, someone’s scarf went into a near empty bowl of soup, staring over at us for taking away the table they were using to put there bags, phones, etc on. When in fact, it was small enough to fit in a dolls house.

Excellent Sunday lunch with the family today. Roast beef was very good as was the rest of the meals. My only complaint was serving Cumberland sausages as a children’s meal, too herby.

Came to Bowling Green tonight and bar staff and waitresses absolute fantastic let down by there catering team who tried to serve reheated braised steak that was absolutely freezing cold served with a hot gravy and warm chips the look of shock on the waitresses face when she touched the steak looked like it wasn’t the first time this had happened went there for my sons birthday but I wasn’t gonna have anything else from there having already waited over an hour. Got offered a free drink free pudding and money for my meal back but feel the chef should have come out to explain wtf he is doing trying to potentially kill people with reheated food not reaching the required temperature needed for reheated food will not be coming again
