Spur of the moment dinner with a friend. Delicious and simple dishes made with ingredients from a reputable local butcher. The side salad was excellent. They also offer local beers, ales, and gin. Definitely recommend checking this place out.
Went to this pub 20.years ago and it was quite good. Had heard it had slipped somewhat in recent years and wasn 't a good place to go to. So after a walk last Saturday we were passing and popped in. Excellent greeting from the young and helpful barman. Beer was superb, well kept and good price. The atmosphere was first class and had the good old fashioned country pub feel that is now so lacking with all the corporate designer pubs so prevalent these days. We were impressed to the point that we will return. Oh. And apparently they do occasion live music..... Man and guitar kind of things. So Recommended
We dined at the Horse Jockey for an early evening mid-week dinner, our first visit since the refurbishment. The internal decoration and ambience were very nice. However, our experience was marred by the fact that none of the meals we ordered were hot, and the plates were cold. We sat with dirty plates in front of us for some time as no one cleared them or offered us dessert or coffee. We ultimately left, probably never to return. It's unfortunate because we want local restaurants to succeed, but if they cannot serve hot meals and provide decent service, they will struggle, especially when they are not busy.
A propper pub and one we are luck to have retained, Friday night live music is the highlight of the village pubs
