A quick look at the menu though and it soon became apparent that if we both had a main and dessert we would be looking at an eye watering $100, without including drinks. A chicken parma and chips is $29 ! This is a pub/hotel. On the Great Ocean Road. This is not fine dining in a high end stylish restaurant. Quite incredible. Not willing to pay those prices we opted for a takeaway, which brought the parma down to $20. On the positive side the portion size was massive but the portion of chips would have been enough for two, easily. The parma itself was dry, lacking in taste with very little tomato and cheese. Very disappointing and certainly not worth $20.With the number of holiday rental properties in Wye River and Separation Creek and the nearby Big4 Holiday Park I suspect the owners have realised that there are no other nearby dining options and can therefore charge what they want. Unfortunately you just feel ripped off. We won't return and I certainly can't recommend it. Ridiculously over priced and lacking in quality.
I think the food made up for the lack luster service and dirty toilets. Could improve facilities but we both enjoyed our lunch. Prices were a tad high.
Everything you would want from a pub in the middle of nowhere. Good food, good beer and friendly faces. Nothing more needed.
We stayed at the Big 4 Wye River campsite next door, and wanted to "eat out". The hotel was the obvious choice.Fantastic views over the ocean, with a good choice of locally-prepared food, and local beer (a bit potent over four middies)! We spent a most enjoyable evening, having got chatting to two local guys.Thoroughly recommended, even if you are just passing through, rather than staying at the campsite.
We chose to drive from Apollo Bay to the Wye River Hotel for lunch and weren't disappointed, in fact we were delighted with the food and service. Right from entering we were greeted by a very friendly young woman who took us out to the balcony and lit the heaters so we could enjoy the great view while we ate, which we did. My partner had the liguine with prawns and chorizo with a lemon sauce and I had the grilled harpuka with vongole. They were both delicious and reasonably priced. The Chardonnay by the glass was also pleasant. The building itself is a classic old beach pub which hasn't been touched for a while but it would be very practical with summer crowds and why spend money only to have to put your prices up and annoy the locals. Well done. We will return next visit.
