The decor is really nice, the entrance has an inn style design and the main restaurant area has a very modern look with glass windows for walls, giving a beautiful view over the River Ouse. The food was excellent. So well presented and of high quality. The staff were very friendly and helpful and happy to give their suggestions.
We visited this restaurant just for a January treat lunch. We went through all the courses from aperitif through to coffee and liqueur. The dishes were delicious, and we enjoyed those with the suggested wine pairings which worked very well. In particular, we appreciated the good offering of gluten-free dishes and gluten-free options. The ambience in this restaurant is most enjoyable with river views, and park views all around. Just the right type of music at just the right discrete volume. We'll go again.
Restsurant quiet but still not sat where we requested. Service ok but not worth 12.5%. £17 for two small scallops and £12 for a cream bun. Small portion of pheasant minus vegs for £24. Drinks even more extortionate. Do not feel we had good value or a special experience. Some lamps minus bulbs...another tiny thing but made us feel the place had lost its classy edge of a few years ago. Will look for an alternative now for our special occasions.
Had Sunday lunch today roast loin of pork had only 3 very small pieces and the meat was tough as old boots almost impossible to cut even with the steak knife provided. The vegetables were very nice, but the apple sauce was from a jar/tin. The server asked if everything was ok with my meal I told him no that the meat was awful and I had left it on my plate. He did not apologise and just walked away leaving my plate on the table. My wife’s meal was ok very small amount of meat but it wasn’t tough. When I complained to the female manager I was offered 10% off our £85.00 bill, which I was not impressed with. In other establishments it would have been normal process to not charge a customer for a meal they were not happy with. £24.00 for a plate of vegetables what a rip off!! We have usually enjoyed our visits to The Star In The City but bitterly disappointed this time
We highly recommend this lovely resturant ,the food was outstanding and the staff we so polite and friendly it's our new favourite resturant in york
