I grew up in York, but left in the mid-80s and returned full-time in 2012. I only recently heard about Jackie Bs, even though it has been around for a long time. Intrigued by the prices, I decided to give it a try. Last night, around 7:30 pm, I went for dinner with a friend. There are two doors from the parking lot - one for the dining room and one for the bar. Our friends were in the bar, so we went there, but we were informed that we should have entered through the dining room door if we wanted to be seated. Once that slight confusion was cleared up, we were quickly seated and given menus. I already knew I wanted the house special, which was the New York Strip steak (8 oz) with 2 sides for $5.95. The food was good and cooked to order. The mushrooms and cauliflower we ordered as appetizers were decent. The options for sides were varied and the portions were satisfying. The waitress was friendly and although there wasn't a full wall separating the restaurant from the bar, the restaurant wasn't as smoky as expected. The bill for my steak dinner, appetizers, and drink came out to $10.98 - a great deal. I would definitely return and try the pizza next time. Overall, I was pleased with my experience at Jackie Bs and would recommend it to others.
I was visiting from Arizona and my mom wanted to take me to this restaurant. However, we were informed that they do not accept out-of-state IDs, which I found to be absurd. I am originally from Pennsylvania, so being turned away simply because I moved to another state is illogical and frustrating.
The prices at Jackie Bs are out of the 50s! The waitress is very friendly and the service good on a Thursday night. I had fried scallops and French fried for $6 and they were good! My sone had surf and turf for $13 and it was good! We brought home our dessert (chocolate cake and carrot cake), and they were good!! Yuengling was ok for $1.50. Total bill came to $26 plus tip. We'll be back! This is a smoking establishment (not our favorite but it wasn't bad). They do not accept credit.
Jackie B 's is amazing. (when the good cook is on. Name Unknown. How can you really beat the Jackie B 's Special? A mysterious, yet delicious steak with two sides for $4.95? York urban legend declares the price has not changed since the 70 's. I would have to agree. A draft beer is 90 cents. Mixed drinks are $1.70. Yes, its a little ghetto and grubby, and yes you might get mugged by the 'white tee shirt ' gang on your way out, but I certainly think its worth a $5 steak! Oh yeah, and there are...TWO...count-em...TWO ladies rooms. yes. On a side note, I would recommend NOT getting any drink that has fruit in it. The bartender is nicknamed Fruit Tits and I cant even begin to describe why.
