One of the best vegan restaurants we’ve ever been to we live in California! The service was incredible. Francisco and Raul were awesome even learned our names!
What a welcome sight to see! A vegan restaurant. I ordered a smoothie which was wonderful and everything I saw come out of the kitchen looked amazing. I would have given this place 5 stars but the woman behind the counter was really grumpy and not very nice.
It took a while to find this place yesterday afternoon, but it was worth the effort. My husband is a vegetarian and does not want to live on gooey cheese chilaquiles, the only non-meat or seafood dish on most menus. We thoroughly enjoyed our all-veg tostadas made with finely diced carrot, tomato, red onion, cucumber, beet, etc. and drizzled with a lovely sauce. We both had mushroom enchiladas in mole, rich and delicious, for our (very filling) main course. Will try to duplicate both of these dishes at home. The hosts were gracious and the people-watching from our streetside table was excellent. We’ll be back before we leave to try more entrees and enjoy the desserts everyone is raving about.
Though not vegan myself, yet leaning towards vegetarianism, I was eager to try this idealistic eating establishment. My carrot juice was perfectly fine. But the bolillo I ordered made incorrectly and not as to it's description on the menu. Worse of all, when I took the first bite I pulled a long blue plastic thread, resembling dental floss or something come loose from a bag, from the sandwich, with veggies hanging onto it. Almost made me gag and spoiled the experience. Instead of avocado, vegan cheese and crema it was filled with beans and veggies. When I told the owner she brought me 2 slices of avocado and 2 scoops of cheese. She was so thoughtful as to take the failed bolillo of the bill. But I will not return, despite my appreciation for her efforts.
Ceci, the chef owner is well known as a leader in the vegan community of Zihuatanejo, which is surprisingly large. Her food in is delightful. Ceci keeps it simple and Mexican serving basic tacos and tamales prepared with vegan ingredients. I usually select three tacos with three different fillings and fill them further with veggies and salsas as I see fit from bowls she puts out on the counter. Order a fresh carrot juice. Your main course is so reasonable you can leave room for a slice of one of Ceci's great frozen desserts, I can't seem to get past the frozen chocolate cheesecake made from cashew cheese, but she prepares other flavors like strawberry and mamey, which is an exotic fruit that you shouldn't hesitate to try. Ceci serves you personally it's kind of like having a friend prepare you food. She also sells vegan essentials such as grapefruit seed extract, apple cider vinegar and liquid smoke. The taqueria is at this time a small friendly but basic place on a side street off Calle Ejido in downtown Zihuatanejo with tables inside and outside.
