Lire plus My wife and I visited Carcassonne in late April 2023. Was very cool and a little rainy. Found Ostal and wanted to try the traditional cassoulet. We were the first patrons to arrive just after they opened for dinner. We got to watch the fireplace get started not knowing that was where they also cooked some of the food. We were there two hours and got to explore the entire place, sit next to the fire and watch our food being roasted, and visit with the staff and cook. It was an unreal evening inside an establishment where food has been served for hundreds of years from the same hearth. I'm sure the experience would have been different if it had been crowded but there were only a handful of others dining and it was quiet and serene. The evening ended with a live musician. The cassoulet and the duck were both fantastic. Very highly recommended if you are there before the tourist season begins.

We were a party of adults and children. We were seated quickly however, it took over minutes for our order to be taken. Close to an hour later our dinner arrive... If the restaurant had been busy, I would have understood but...it wasn't that busy. Unfortunately ordering dinner was difficult as service in English was not available. Dinner was good once it arrived.
