04.10.2024 - 09:00I dined at Chart House for the first time last week and while I didn 't love my experience, I will probably return. Located in the Golden Nugget downtown, Chart House is easily identifiable by their showpiece: a giant saltwater fish tank! The restaurant surrounds the tank so you can watch the fish swim around while you dine. It 's really cool. The rest of the restaurant is not. The atmosphere feels extremely dated, in a contemporary style that feels like it came out of a mid-1990s time capsule. The decor needs an update badly and, considering how pricey the food is here, I would expect the dining room to be a bit more upscale. Our waiter was a little uptight, especially when we didn 't order bottled water or alcohol. He got a bit more casual when we ordered several of his recommendations from the menu. We were served a pitiful bread basket with just three small selections. The bread was warm, but had either been held too long in a warming tray or had straight up been microwaved. The bread was TOUGH and had that wrinkly exterior texture that bread gets when it 's not fresh. Epic fail on the bread basket. I had the crab cake appetizer and my husband had the ahi tuna. Neither of us liked our appetizers that much. There was nothing wrong with them, it 's just that neither knocked our socks off. In fact, we both agreed we would not order either of these dishes again. The crab cake was astoundingly mediocre for a seafood restaurant, and the soft shell crab was deep fried with too much breading. It tasted both fishy and like old oil, and that was quite unappealing. For dinner, he got the prime rib with a side of mushrooms, while I opted for fresh grilled halibut with a side of Asian spiced green beans. Both of our entrees were excellent. The beef was perfectly cooked and tender, and he couldn 't stop raving about the mushrooms. I had requested my halibut be cooked more on the medium-well side, and the chef did a fantastic job. The doneness was exactly how I like it. I was surprised to see a very large portion of seasoned rice with my fish, and it was so tasty! The green beans were good too. We had so many leftovers because we knew we wanted to save room for dessert! We chose the ice cream flight to share. The flavors of the day were fresh strawberry (sooooo good), chocolate s 'mores (equally delicious), and fresh watermelon (this would 've been great as a sorbet, but creamy watermelon was just...gross). The ice cream is all made in-house and the flavors change frequently. Get this if you love cold, sweet treats. Speaking of leftovers, I was surprised when we were given styrofoam containers to box up our own food. Usually at a nicer restaurant, you get sturdy plastic containers that are microwaveable or at least the waiter will take your plate back and box it up for you. I found this strange and kinda awkward, especially as the styrofoam boxes were very flimsy and a bother to handle. The service was good, but one thing really irritated me: the bussers who would literally stand around watching us eat. The second (and I mean the very SECOND we were done, or it looked like we were done), one of the ladies would run over and snatch the plate right off the table. This made me feel stressed and rushed, and one time she tried to grab my plate before I was even finished. It 's worth mentioning that the restaurant was a ghost town when we were there, like maybe two other tables the entire time. Not sure if it 's always this slow, but it was a little weird. If you are a Landry 's Rewards member, make sure to put in your number. You can rack up major points here because the prices are quite high. We dropped a couple hundred dollars here, and it would be easy to spend much more if you ordered cocktails or wine. The cocktail menu was very appealing, by the way. Chart House would get a 3 star rating if not for the main course and ice cream, so now I know to skip the appetizers and go straight for the big plates (and dessert).

03.03.2024 - 08:44I was in Toronto covering TIFF as a member of the press and without much time to eat, I needed something quick that was hearty and healthy. I was happy to find a Freshii by my hotel. I had never heard of the chain before, and I found myself returning a few times during my stay downtown. The employees were SO friendly at this location! Eager to please and helpful, and they never lost their patience when I asked what was in each burrito. It sort of works like a Subway where you order and they'll happily customize your item. I stuck with the wraps and burritos because they are easily portable so I could grab one in the morning, throw it in my bag, and nibble on it between movie screenings while I was typing up a film review. I ate a total of 4 wraps from Freshii, and all of them were good. The ingredients were fresh with crispy lettuce and other produce, and very flavorful with interesting international spices and flavors. I thought the prices were fair considering the very large portion sizes. The employees know how to wrap the burritos tightly so there's no ingredient spillage! That's important when needed to eat on the go. This location is attached to an office building and opens at 11 am sharp. Go early to beat the working crowds.

27.01.2024 - 22:58I probably should rate this McDonald 's a solid 5 stars because it saved me from going hungry and peeing my pants on a Sunday in France 's rural wine country when EVERYTHING IS CLOSED. No, I mean everything, down to the grocery stores and gas stations! (Note to self: do better research before planning a road trip through the French countryside on a Sunday). This is a regular McDonald 's and while I hated having to stop and eat here (really, Americans shouldn 't spend their holiday in France eating at a U.S. fast food chain), the food was really good. As with most McDonald 's restaurants in Europe, there are special regional dishes on offer. I chose some fancy pants Chicago bacon burger with super fresh produce toppings and hubby had a regional burger with onions, a fancy foccacia bun, and melty brie cheese. I got big fat fries that were more like gourmet seasoned potato wedges than regular fries (translation: they were delicious). McDonald 's is NOT cheap in Europe, expect to pay $4 U.S. for a regular sized soda (no ice and no refills), about the same for a large fry, and $5 $10 U.S. for a burger. We ordered almost $40 U.S. worth of food because we were starving and all of it was good. I 'm glad we did it too because that ended up being the only meal we had the entire day. This location has clean and free bathrooms so if you have to go, you can easily slip in and out unnoticed. They also have those easy to order kiosks that have 8 different languages (McDonald 's makes it easy if you don 't speak the local language), so it 's fuss free especially if you pay at the kiosk with a credit card.

16.01.2024 - 11:30When we were in Jensen Beach visiting my brother in law and his wife, they suggested we go here for lunch. They had recently discovered Cafe Boonma and raved about how great it is and they weren 't wrong! Tucked away in a nondescript strip mall, Cafe Boonma is hard to find but easy to love. The restaurant has a soothing atmosphere and is obviously a place run with tons of love, from the decor to the food. The place was empty when we arrived, but I hope more customers will read these glowing Yelp reviews and try it out. We were graciously welcomed and seated immediately. The menu is simple and easy to understand. One of my biggest complaints about Thai restaurants is oftentimes the menu will just list names of dishes and assume that customers know what the dishes are, but won 't tell you what ingredients are in them. That 's not the case here! Every element of every dish was clearly posted, so it was easy to know what I 'd like and what I wouldn 't. I decided to order Pad Ka Prow, a dish with onions, red peppers, and green beans in a tasty basil sauce. Another awesome thing about the menu is that you can order any dish but select which protein you want: tofu, chicken, pork, beef, shrimp, or duck. This makes everything totally customizable, which is really cool. Given our proximity to water, I went with shrimp. My plate was loaded with medium sized shrimp, and everything tasted fresh. You can also select the level of spice you 'd like, and I said zero. My food was absolutely perfect! My bro in law warned that if you say you want it hot, it will be super duper spicy, so take note. There 's a good selection of curry and noodle dishes too, and the prices are more than fair for the quality and quantity of food you get. You can also request brown rice instead of white rice with your dish too. The service was friendly and attentive, and the iced tea was one of the tastiest brews I had during my entire visit to Florida. I really, really enjoyed my lunch here. What a great restaurant!

25.12.2023 - 05:28It was my hubby's birthday and he's not a fan of cake, so he requested donuts. I was going to get the same old boring name brand donuts, but then I decided to finally stop into this cute little bakery. Due to its location it's a little difficult to get to if you aren't traveling the correct direction on Blue Diamond, so I've been meaning to go for a long time but I seemed to never be on the right side of the road that would make it convenient to stop in. I also don't treat myself to donuts often, but that may change after trying Mazzoa! When I walked in, a nice lady named Cheryl hurried out of the back to greet me. I told her it was my first time in the store, and she was so helpful. The donuts looked fresh and delicious, and were very well presented. They weren't labeled, however, which is a pain for the customer (and workers alike) because I had to ask what every single thing was. It slowed things down a bit and could be resolved with simple signs stating what was what. I selected a half dozen assorted donuts, which included a cronut, a couple of cake donuts, and the rest raised yeast donuts. I had read that the cake donuts were a bit dry, but we didn't think that was the case at all. The raised yeast donuts were by FAR the best. Cheryl said since it was my first time in she wanted me to try her favorites, so she threw in a couple of donuts and cronut holes for free! I thought that was super nice of her. The donuts were a huge hit and tasted great. They are priced competitively with other bakeries and donut shops in the area, but their donuts are much larger. I also liked that they aren't loaded with too many toppings or sweet icing, you can really taste the fluffy, sweet dough. We couldn't eat all of the donuts so I removed the leftovers and put them in a tupperware container. Imagine my surprise when TWO DAYS LATER the donuts were still soft and edible! Mazzoa is a friendly place with a really tasty product. If you are craving donuts, this is the place you're looking for.
