He even made a special pepper chili paste for me. The food was truly exceptional and stood out among the numerous places I have eaten at. In a sea of similar-tasting dishes, Penang Restaurant's offerings are truly unique and different.
I am a fan of Malaysian food, and Penang was a fantastic choice for a delicious dinner. I went in to pick up our food and was impressed by the restaurant's unique interior. Although I would have loved to dine in, I ended up getting takeout instead. The menu was extensive, featuring a variety of Asian dishes, including a large selection of Thai cuisine.
I ordered the Honey Squid based on a recommendation from Creative Loafing. This was one of the only dishes in Atlanta that I refused to finish because of how bad it was. The squid was fried so long, that it took on the flavor of the fry oil almost entirely. The only other flavor note was the off-putting burntness of the squid mangled flesh. The bite was extremely dense. The flavor was one-sided with almost no complexity. Certainly there is no justification for calling this honey flavored, as I tasted no honey in the dish. I 'd advise against ordering this dish. I hope the individual execution on my dish was just a one-time mistake. But I can 't make any promises on that. Of the 14 dishes I sampled in Atlanta, this was by far the worst.
Pretty tasty. My friend says her vegetarian husband comes here a lot. The location is kinda hard to see if you're coming from the north side but it's located next to pho bac. Food was pretty good. Jammed pack with flavor. The Hannaiese chicken was super moist and tender. I really enjoyed the satay chicken and salty bean sprout and fish. The only thing I wasn't really crazy about was the fish head soup. I ate it but I didn't really enjoy the flavor. It was white, sweet and kinda bland. Service was nice and friendly. Overall with the yelp deal I thoroughly enjoyed it and may return.
Good Malaysian food experience for our group of six. Service was a little slow because there was only one server, but food came out quick. Roti canai- got the veggie and chicken versions. This was ok. The veggie one was watery and the rotis got hard pretty quickly. I'm used to them being soft and flaky. Hubby got the lamb redang. He loved the seasoning and said the lamb was cooked perfectly. He finished the whole thing Kari Seyur- veggie curry. Good to share and the portion was huge. There were plenty of leftovers Penang Curry Mee Noodle Soup- liked the shrimp and noodles in the soup. The broth had good flavor but I had to add some hot sauce to make it spicier. This portion is also huge. Chili Chicken- loved this. The chicken was crispy and had the perfect mix of flavor. It looked bland at first but I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was. We did order it extra spicy, so that might have brought out more flavor. Singapore Fried Mee Hoon- yummy noodles! Nice side dish to share if you are with a group. The only other dish we were able to finish.
