We had a splendid meal of tomatoes and ham and cheese likely the best tomatoes I have ever eaten. And then Croquettes and for a main course we had the bean stew. We also had local cider and a local dessert. And the owners cookies are a must! The restaurant decor is charming and they are so friendly and nice and we took a scenic route back to Oviedo so that we could see the area. So a whole experience not simply a great meal!,
We've been visiting El llar de Viri for the past 3 or 4 years. The food is always exceptional, with a good variety of tasty dishes. I recommend the award winning fabada and the venison. This is a slow food restaurant, so don't expect to eat and leave in anything less than an hour. The service is always friendly, and Viri and the waiters will often chat at the table is they are able. Treat yourself!
I've eaten in this restaurant a few times and each time it has gone down in my estimation. The main reason for going is the fabada, for which they won the Prize (mejor fabada del año) in 2013. And it's true that the fabada is good, though not better than others I've had in Asturias (el Castillo, in Salas for example). The enormous croquetas are tasty, as well as a few other dishes we tried. So why overrated? Because it is way too expensive. The place itself is like someone's living room, which is quite quaint on first acquaintance with the rickety tables, bookshelves, etc. but it is not especially comfortable and in fact pretty ugly from the outside. The owner comes across as having an extremely high opinion of herself and depending on her mood she can sometimes be rather apathetic (I'm being charitable).
A great experience, with perfect hosts! Traditional dishes with some remarkable innovation! Once again we stopped by El Llar de Viri for our annual meal. I believe that we are going to reduce the periodicity to half-yearly or, better, quarterly. It is that you eat very well and the attention is like the food, very homemade and familiar. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
