After a very expensive weekend, multiple outfits purchased, several dinners and breakfasts eaten and drinks served but ultimately one bad service interaction can really put you off from a place. We enjoyed stopping by the bar and getting a quick drink before our reservation or plans for the evening. We let our server know we would only be staying for a quick drink, she took our order shortly came back grabbed our menus and said while shaking her head at us “if you don’t order food you need to go order at the bar and sit over there” and then canceled our drink order. Disappointing that management will not address these problems and lets their staff treat paying customers poorly and rudely.
Elaine herself was a wonderful host, always ready with helpful recommendations for local attractions and dining options. We appreciated the personal touch, as she took the time to chat with us and make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, our stay at Elaine's was memorable, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy and charming place to stay. We can't wait to return!
After the 6 of us in our party ordered drinks, we were told that in order to sit where we were, we had each order food to stay there. We told the waitress that we were not ready to eat, and wanted to have drinks first, to not be rushed. So after that she informed us we could not stay there, and had to go on the lawn on the other side of the restaurant. I don't know why it was a problem that we wanted to wait to order food. We paid our bill and left. We wound up going to a different restaurant and had a wonderful time there instead. I really don't know who's making these rules but angering your customers is not good business. Also, if you are going to advertise that you have jack and coke slushy, then either fix your machine or stop saying you serve them. We really were going there because someone from Elaine's said they had them after we asked and then were told they couldn't make them. Super disappointed
Let me explain to you all what happened to me at Elaine’s restaurant in Cape May. I first want to say I am a local resident of cape may. I never ever write bad reviews of local business owners since I am a business owner myself but what happened to my family was simply wrong. My wife called on Thursday to make a reservation on Saturday at 6pm. The gentleman whom answered the phone said as long as you come prior to 6 pm you should get seated and it is first come first serve. When we arrived at Elaine’s at 545 pm there was a sign to seat yourself which we did at a vacant table for 8 close to the live entertainment. A waitress Tracey told us to get up because the table was being held for her friend and proceeded to sit us on the edge of the road where we could not hear any entertainment. We felt this was truly wrong and approached her to say we don’t understand the sign says seat yourself and you don’t take reservations but you are reserving tables for your friends? She said yes and seemed to not care she upset my family. Really rude and disrespectful. I will never eat here again. Nick
I was not very impressed with this bed and breakfast.... well actually it 's just a bed. There was no complimentary breakfast. You could BUY breakfast at the restaurant. For the price of the rooms (which are WAY overpriced) breakfast should have been included. Room was nice but very simple. Sheets were not changed during our stay. We were awakened by a smoke alarm at 1:00, had to evacuate, and wait for fire trucks. We were never given a credible reason, they said it was from a hot shower . Overall, it was literally just a place to crash. You can do that other places for half of the price.
