After we contacted the restaurant by e-mail, we were told that it is the low season and dinner is only upon reservation. We made a reservation and opened the restaurant for both of us. Both chefs and a waiter were there to serve us. Such great people, so humble. And the service cannot be better! Each dish was on point, so amazing aromas with interesting combinations! We had such a great dinner that we had to come back. We came with a few friends and their children back to the restaurant. We were served a family dinner. Our friends were as impressed by Kali's food as we were. The food there is amazing. They have tailored the food to our needs and also want to include the children who want something completely different. I can guarantee we'll come back. It's a meal you can't forget! Muchas gracias!!!!
Kali tries hard, maybe a little too hard. They offer a 7 course tasting menu for $950 pesos. The dishes are beautifully refined and aesthetically appealing, but the aromas are muddy and the technique sloppy. Sous vide mahi mahi over squid ink rice was somehow...dry and boiled (whether to do with Sous vide), pork ribs with brown mole were tasteless and underscored immersed in an overwhelming mouth. Our 7 courses included 5 meat courses and no dessert. Pacing was a big problem. We sat in the less than appealing dining room for over 4 hours when we waited for the food to be tricked. This was our second visit to this ambitious ice cream and we were disappointed that the challenges we have experienced during our first visit were not addressed. The cook is clearly talented, but too much too often supplies too little.
I found this place from Trip Advisor reviews. It was worth the hunt to get there! The restaurant is located deep within the little town of Punta Mita. On a dirt road we had to follow our GPS to get there and we...had a lot of people staring out their windows at us as we wandered the streets trying to find the restaurant. Once we found it we were so happy! They didn't have our reservation on record (although our concierge said she made one for us) but they seated us right away (we were the only people there). It looks like it is someone's house there was a pool outside the dining room. The chef is a former Four Season's chef and boy could you tell! The food was absolutely delicious! It was more art than food! Service was a bit slow but they were't expecting us so that was fine. We tried a little bit of everything and it was all so good. The desert at the end with the little puffs of cotton candy on a branch was unique. We would definitely go back a superb meal!!!
We 've been going to Punta Mita for about twelve years and are familiar with just about all the area restaurants. But we 'd never been to Kali until now (its been open a bit longer than a year). Not one of the restaurants on the beach,...go to Kali for excellent food prepared and served by super-nice people, not for any view. The menu was very creative, included vegetable, fish and meat courses (with choices), and everything was perfectly prepared. We love a number of the restaurants in the area and Kali is now going to be in the permanent rotation . We highly recommend Kali as a place for a couple or a group to have a great meal at more-than-fair prices for the quality.
