Contribuer aux commentairesThis is a PAINFUL review, because on so many levels, the restaurant should be a 5 star. The service was IMPECCABLE, stellar, personable, professional and simply memorable Jackson was adorable, and with Derek, one of the wine whizzes in the house, the beverage selection is magic (drumroll for the wine comment). The wine list (and overpriced) is absolutely stellar. The food was almost flawless we ordered the Scallop crudo in a sinfully delicate aguachile was perfect. And the sourdough bread (which you pay $8 for half a loaf) was magnificent. The fettuccini was al dente, bathed in a delicate and flavorful brodo with perfect local little neck. The ambiance is soooo old Cape, a lovely and charming vibe. The food is local and creative. The problem I 'm having with The Pheasant, is that I have many farm to table restaurants to compare it to with equal levels of wine extraordinaire, amazing bar concoctions, exquisite food and they deliver something that this restaurant can 't value. The food is overly priced. Now, lets understand that this is not a place for everyone it will cost you. The food is WONDERFUL, no doubt about it. A small and tight menu is manageable and easy to navigate. But the price/portion is difficult to understand, even for Cape Cod. NYC/Boston prices on the Cape? The place has a cult following, so reservations are encouraged! Don 't let my review turn you away. The food is delicious. The staff is dreamy. The restaurant inviting. I just can 't wrap my head around the price to portion when I have others to compare it to. And if you visit, make sure you are ready to pay the mark up for wines but you will have a unique experience. And if you want the FULL monty, make sure you take time to hop over to Yarmouth to Dunn and Sons their wine and spirits shop the FAO Shwartz for winos!
Can't say enough good things about this place! It is an oasis of fine dining on the Cape and I was able to grab a reservation for earlier in the night. Amazing service with well educated wait staff. The clams were our favorite dish and reminded us of some we had ordered earlier this year at a wine bar in San Juan. None of the deserts really appealed to us, so we opted to move outside to finish the night in their garden with a bottle of wine equally good service!
Returned to the Pheasant this year while on vacation and I'm happy to say it was wonderful yet again! My husband and I shared our dishes. We started with the Scallop Crudo and the Smoked Cabbage followed by the Halibut and Short Ribs. My husband had the chocolate ganache for dessert. Everything was perfectly prepared. I especially loved the crudo I could have eaten one by myself! Delicious!
We had dinner at The Pheasant, the service was warm and professional, the surroundings were intriguing and welcoming and the food..... the food was thoughtful, creative, and downright delicious. It's the kind of meal where you talk about the taste, keep sharing bites and keep eating long past when you are satiated because it just tastes and feels so good. So many places fall down on the wine list and pairing knowledge, this is not the case at The Pheasant. Texture, taste, ingredients, presentation, wine pairings, all were spot on! Can't wait to dine there again. Just do yourself a favor and go there as well!
Came here with two other people for our last night in Cape Cod before heading back to NYC. Luckily we were able to check in much earlier than our reservation due to a table opening up. I started out with a Coast to Coast cocktail, which was delightfully fruity but not overly sweet. My partner had a dry cider which was skillfully poured into a glass to minimize foam. For starters, we got the scallop crudo with watermelon aguachile and sourdough with seaweed butter. The scallops were so buttery smooth and fresh, balancing out the acidity and kick of the aguachile. The watermelon had a lovely kick to it as well, as did the cucumbers. The bread was pretty good--it came warm and the koji-seaweed butter was perfectly spreadable. I couldn't really taste the koji-seaweed flavor but the butter was still delicious because... butter. My companions got the mushroom cavatelli (which she enjoyed--she said it was a tad too peppery but she also has the lowest spice tolerance known to man) and the market salad and short rib (which he enjoyed). My partner particularly enjoyed the mustard vin that came with the salad. I ordered the steamed clams in vinho verde and green oil, which were delicious. I only wish I had saved some bread to dip in it, so don't make the same mistake I made by eating all the bread--save some for dipping! I also got the smoked cabbage on the recommendation of our waiter, with promises that the preparation was extremely un-cabbage-like and I can confirm this is the case. As a cabbage-hater (and honestly a general vegetable-hater), I enjoyed the dish and would encourage fellow cabbage-haters to give it a chance! We finished the meal with the chocolate ganache and meringue--so rich, so creamy, and not too sweet (iykyk). I'd recommend for fans of dark chocolate but not for lovers of super sweet milk chocolate. The highlight of our meal (besides the food) was our wonderful server, Jackson. He was incredibly patient with my indecisive Libra friend and helped her decide between two dishes. He empathized with me as a fellow cabbage-hater but recommended the smoked cabbage anyway, making the recommendation all the more strong. We really appreciate how much care he spent checking in with us and chatting with us throughout the meal--it made the meal that much more enjoyable. Looking forward to visiting The Pheasant again during our next visit!
