Brauhaus Freistadt

Excellent food, all beers excellent, two need to be pointed out especially: the brown beer following the bohemian style, which is not so common in Austria, and the midium, the first lager style beer with less than alcohol I ever drank, that was really...good, no reason to drink a stronger beer. You visit Freistadt you have to go there. Unfortunately I found out too late, that they serve starting at p.m. a second unfiltered beer called Kellerbier from a wooden cask so I cannot comment on this highly interesting beer. The only point of discomfort was to find out that after consuming beers, two starters, and two main courses, they also charged the tap water. Do not get me worng, I do not complain that the price was in general too high, for this quality there is no reason to charge less, but a few decades ago in Austria it was the standard to serve tap water automatically as a free addition to beer or wine, a sensable tradiotion, whichis widely lost, but charging tap water, if the customer does consume a decent amount of food and drink, is not at all accaptable, therefore no chance of a fifth star. Sorry!

A lively spot in town. Great food and beer brewed on the premises. The soup is great, apple strudel the best we had in two weeks. Really enjoyed our time here.

We came for dinner after a long working day and thoroughly enjoyed both food and service. The beers (yes, we tasted our way through!) are exceptional, to my taste exceptionally the Zwickel. The Schweinsbraten (pork roast) was sensational, and my friend's "Steckerlfisch" (a saibling smoke-roast on a stick, see picture) was also great, and a typical Austrian treat for a hot summer. We would return in a heartbeat.

Whether you tour the brewery or not, stop by for a great beer and a bite to. eat. Between 2-6 only light meals, but a delightful menu for a light meal.
