Great friendly pub with a great atmosphere, every table taken on a Monday night, friendly and helpful and attentive staff and every dish that was served to the three of our family looked superb and tasted great. Scallops cooked properly, Halimi ditto. Duck main course wouldn't have looked out of place in a white tablecloth restaurant. And the prices seemed so reasonable. Main courses between £15 and £27 for a steak. You can choose a number of the mains as smaller portions. The highlight of my own meal was the almond and lemon tart, warm with crushed meringue, lemon cured and lemon ice cream. It was simply wow. I'd drive a long way for that dessert. A great surprise and caused us a real challenge as we are staying locally for 2 nights and have another pub booked for tomorrow night...the challenge whether to cancel it and go here for a second night or try somewhere else. Refreshing to see food prepared so well and such good value for money. I couldn't fault it. Highly recommended. Hope the review is helpful to folks. Stuart
We had a very pleasant dinner here while we were camping in the area. The dining room is spacious and the staff were very happy for our 2 dogs to lay near our table. Staff were attentive and the food was very good. The place had a hotel dining feel to it, which was a nice atmosphere.
I went to this restaurant yesterday with a group of my girlfriends. We all ordered the roast dinner and it was absolutely fantastic! The portions were generous and the food was delicious. I saw that the reviews were mixed online, but personally, I thought it was one of the best roast dinners I have ever had. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was laid-back. If I ever find myself in Bala again, I would definitely come back to this restaurant.
Can't even describe how awful we're our meals. I've ordered bacon brie sandwich, my partner had roast beef sandwich. Both came cold. My sandwich included boiled ,pale looking yup bacon which wasn't even warm. That bacon was never warm as brie wasn't even melting. The sandwich was served with some side beet salad. I've had 2 bites but that tasted vile so I left it. My partner said his sandwich was disgusting and awfully cold , he left his too. For that kind of money you would expect to have some meat loaded delight sandwich but instead we've had something made but someone who never been in kitchen ? You should be ashamed for serving it to people. 8
Me and a few friends had travelled to Bala lake for a nice day out, we walked into Bala centre to find somewhere for food and drink around 4pm. This was the first place we crossed, so we went in and waited by the sign where it said ‘wait to be seated’. We saw people sat outside with finished plates so we thought they’ll be serving food. We were waiting a fair few minutes, I popped my head around to the bar where this middle aged grumpy looking guy was working. He could definitely see us as I tried saying excuse me a few times, but he proceeded to ignore. So I went through to the bar where he was serving people and politely asked if they were serving food. He looked at me as he was pouring a pint and in a really grumpy way went ‘no’ and looked back down at the pint he was pouring. He looked angry? Even people at the bar noticed, we all just looked at each other a bit surprised. As we walked out, some people from the bar followed and said ‘yeah he’s a ‘wan*er, you’re better off trying somewhere further up’. Which we did and found a much more welcoming and friendlier place. It was just a shame he was so cold, like he didn’t want us there. We were tempted to get pizza from next door and all have drinks outside, but after the way he was we didn’t want to spend our money there. He lost out on 8 of us who were happy to fork out for drinks at least.
