When we ordered wine, the server placed a bottle with no label and no explanation. Come to find out the owner has a winery but the server had no idea where. When asked how did she know that we were drinking what we ordered she stated from the dot on the cork . I ordered the salmon which had zero seasoning or sauce and was over cooked. It came with plain cucumbers and an odd flavorless potato pancake. The bill came to $124 and all we enjoyed was the laughter of how ridiculously bad everything was.
In the pleasant small town of Kennett Square PA, there are many good restaurants this, unfortunately, is not one of them. I wanted it to be great because the owner is a delightful man who, several years ago, had the original Byrsa Bistro in town. We ate there several times, it was terrific delicate, lovingly prepared Mediterranean fare. Some years ago, he moved his restaurant out of town (ate at that Glen Mills location and was not too impressed), but when he opened a second location in KSQ, we were excited to give it a try. I should have known something was up. All the restaurants in town were busy except for Byrsa Bistro where we had a reservation for 4. The new Byrsa in KSQ was mediocre at best though the staff was pleasant...soup was completely forgotten and when addressed (as the entree was being placed on the table), we were told, Oh, I 'll bring that now. Really? Soup while we 're eating entrees of pasta pizza? I don 't think so. Food was truly mediocre in most aspects. Our appetizers (the burrata caprese and the truffle fries) were an 8 9 out of 10 (the fries were exceptional); however, the entrees were not. One of our party had the Chicken Tortellini he said it was OK . One had the Buffalo Pizza they seemed to like it but they are inclined to not make waves. I make waves. The bland Rigatoni Bolognese tasted like pasta with minimal ground meat and Ragu from a bottle. Simply awful! The Seafood Paella had shell bits n ' pieces, but no shrimp. It claimed to be seafood with saffron rice but I 've had saffron rice and it was not The whole dish was basically red sauce swamped rice and some seafood. It was basically the same sauce that was on the Bolognese and not one single vegetable that I could spot. I expected seafood and a FLAVORFUL saffron rice... what I got was clams, mussels, calamari rings and a red sauce (tasted like a bottled sauce,IMO). Shouldn 't a saffron rice be a delicate, yellow? Instead I received a glob (I 'm not kidding) of flavorless, reddish tomato y rice with some seafood mixed in. It was ridiculous! I advise the owner of this restaurant to UP YOUR GAME or leave town. THIS is not a restaurant to be proud of. If the problem is staff, I think I understand that. But, for a $170 dinner for 4 with only 1 cocktail and no dessert, you should be ashamed to call this place a restaurant.
We had the best outdoor dining experience in this lovely spot. The servers were all so nice and accommodating. The server even double checked with the bartender about the martini my hubs ordered. The food was amazing and we all ordered vastly different items. A one person outdoor concert was happening across the street. All of the best happened at once on a Friday night. Thank you!
We were there on a Friday evening and sat outside. The food was wonderful--my wife enjoyed a chicken dish very much, I loved the salad with salmon perfectly cooked, and our friends that the paella was perfect. Good, attentive service as well. Couldn't be better except for the street noise of cars with outrageous mufflers cruising through town. Perhaps the restaurant can take this up with the Borough over enforcement.
Was okay. Food was average, staff was polite but inexperienced. No AC was rather warm inside. Nice that it's a BYOB makes it reasonable if you are going to have some drinks/wine. Would go back but there are better choices in Kennett.
