Nice atmosphere in this Italian restaurant. Decoration is pretty and classy. It is not cheap, so you expect the whole experience to be of a certain level. Unfortunately, the fake croco placemat is stapled (!!!) and the menu is worn out. A pitty. Service is nice and professional. The Italian lady is very welcoming. The eggplant parmigiana is excellent although it tastes reheated – but that type of dish tastes better so. The pasta is fresh but doesn’t taste homemade. The lobster risotto is well cooked and tasty, but for CHF 45.-- you expect more than flaked lobster. Lots of butter, which makes it tasty indeed, but a bit heavy. Wines are good (we tried 2). There are only 6 red wines, and one of them is not available. We weren't offered to look at the wine list, I don't know if there is one, so we chose among the 5 available wine in the mentioned in the menu. As a result, food is good, a bit on the pricy side and some adjustments are needed.
By large the best italian restaurant in Lausanne, all things considered.Certainly, going there in the season of white truffles helps, but even without them, the food is excellent, well prepared, well presented with garbo. The choice of wines is supported by the presence of the oenotheque, with an excellent wine list. The only poor point is the absence of a parking facility.
We went to the Mousquines for a family occasion. I had heard so much good about the place, so I wanted to try it by myself. The result was good but not that great. We were very well served by polite and funny waiters. The wines were absolut delites and the place is very nicely decorated. We all had meat, the Tartare was fantastic with actual real peppers and not tabasco, but my Beef filet was real disappointment. The flesh was too cooked and the sauce didn't taste anything (it was supposed to be foie gras and balsamico), there were only 6-7 little potatoes and 4-5 pieces of carrot. I don't know if there was a problem in kitchen with my plate, because all the others were really good, but I was disappointed... specially when I was waiting for a beautiful filet and not a small piece of overcooked meat. I might go back to make sure that this was just a one time mistake (it happens to all of us).P.S: The price is really great! We had for less than 100 CHF per person and we had all 2 plates, 3 bottles of water, 3 bottles of wine and digestif.
Nothing fancy here, just plain good food, good service and an excellent wine list. The crew used to run an Italian restaurant and this still shows on the menu, but it is not all Italian. Adjoining to the restaurant is an oenotheque which means that they know all about wines and can guide you in all categories of prices. We had one from the lower price bracket (from Puglia) and everybody loved it. The food can be a bit rich and the salads are huge so if you take a starter, make sure you can still eat the main course. The same goes for the desserts - when we were there, the rich chocolate dessert was almost too much. Parking can be a bit of a problem but there is a paying parking place (Mont-Repos) within walking distance. I would gladly return to this restaurant but probably skip the starter.
