Good bar for a beer, a vermut and a toast.
So sorry that we only found this place the day before we flew home. Whilst we had previously found lovely places to linger for a drink and some great restaurants, this place fitted both categories. Whilst it is decorated in a modern way, it seemed to have captured the vibe of the best Spanish bars in that the clientele ranged from 20 somethings to pensioners. There was a huge range of reasonably priced wines by the glass. The food was mainly tostas, but what beautiful tostas they were, I had one with cod and salmorejo which was one of the most delicious things I had whilst in Madrid. The guy serving was polite and efficient and did everything on his own including the food. Even the music was great. Easy listening jazz standards, think Ella Fitzgerald. All of this a stone's throw from the main square, but so much nicer.
Service is typically business-like and Diaz y Larrouy probably isn’t going to win any awards for being the most vibrant or trendy place but the food does the talking. Never before has something-on-toast ‘Tostas’ been so well received. The sobrasada tosta was devine. Stop by as part of your tapas crawl.
Good place to try Cava. Cool location, tapas were a bit average and staff was a bit grumpy but worth a look nonetheless.
