Contribuer aux commentairesAs a kid, I used to devour on fluffy Pancakes and crispy Waffles drizzled with maple syrup for breakfast. Although mom used to make the usual South Indian specialties like Dosa, Idli, Upma, etc, there were days where she would make a typical English breakfast. During my childhood, I used to eat egg as well, but after turning into a vegetarian for the past couple of years, I stopped eating egg based dishes. This includes Pancakes and even desserts such as cakes and other delicious pastries. Diesel Cafe is the name of the restaurant located in Prestige Hotel which serves THE best English breakfast in town! Having lived in Mangaluru for many years, I had always heard of this place, but had not visited. Thankfully, my wish came true about a week back when my mom, cousin and I went for brunch to Diesel Cafe. When we opened the door to Diesel Cafe, one of the waiters came rushing to the door to greet and escort us to our table. The time was around 10 AM and just as I had read in many reviews about this place, it was already crowded, but we managed to get a table right near the huge mirrors on the wall. I had gone through the menu online, so already had an idea of the kind of food which is served in Diesel Cafe. But the main reason we came here was to eat the Pancakes and Waffles. My cousin who likes to eat egg decided to order an omelette, but she also took a bite of the Pancakes and Waffles for the first time and to her surprise, she liked it! The waiter served us water in a tall glass which reminded be of a beaker. Yes! it reminded me of something which students use in Chemistry class! He asked us if we were ready to place the order and we nodded in unison. Cappuccino My cousin and I ordered for a mug of Cappuccino. When it was brought to the table, I could make out that this was the authentic cappuccino with the clouds of froth on top. It was extremely hot, so I had to wait for a few minutes before taking a sip. It tasted a little sweet, so I decided to add two more packets of sugar to make it even sweeter. After adding the sugar, the taste was just perfect! Freshly Squeezed Pineapple Juice This is the name of the beverage as per the menu. Mom decided to order a mug of this and to our surprise, it was served in a cute Mason Jar which happens to be the popular way of serving juices, milkshakes and coolers these days. She said that the taste was extremely sweet and there was not even a hint of bitterness. It was so good, that she would have ordered for another one, but decided to save her appetite for the Waffles as the juice is quite filling. As mentioned above, mom and I were keen on eating the Pancakes and Waffles, which happens to be the main reason why Diesel Cafe is one of the best cafes in Mangaluru. These are available only on Saturdays and Sundays, but thankfully, they serve them all day long! Since the cafe opens by 7:00 AM, it is the ideal place to head for breakfast over the weekend. There are six kinds of Pancakes which you can choose from at Diesel Cafe. I decided to order a plate of Peanut Butter and Banana Pancakes. You have an option of ordering a single or a double, and I am sure you know which one I ordered! The Pancakes were served on a geometric shape black plate which had been decorated with fruits, cream and castor sugar. In the middle of it all, were two pancakes stacked one on top of the other. They had been smeared with creamy Peanut Butter and topped with 3 cute little pieces of banana. I drizzled lots of maple syrup on them and decided I could not wait any longer to take a bite. It was so fluffy and the peanut butter mixed with the maple syrup was the right combination and gave such an out of this world taste. My mom and cousin also took a bite and said it was indeed very very delicious. Since I had ordered for Pancakes, Mom decided to try out the Waffles. There were four different kinds to chose from and she decided to order a plate of Original Butter Waffles. Just like me, she ordered for two Waffles instead of one. As predicted, the Waffles were served on the same kind of plate that the Pancakes had been served on. There were pieces of fruit and a small drop of cream on the outer edge of the plate. The Waffles had been arranged neatly on the plate and the first thing that we noticed was the huge dollop of butter sitting in the middle of the Waffle. Mom also drizzled lots of maple syrup and smeared the butter so that it could make their way into the numerous squares. The Waffles were soft in the middle and crispy towards the edge. We would have definitely ordered for another plate if our stomach was not already full from eating one round of Pancakes and Waffles! My cousin ordered for a Baked Fluffy Spanish Omelette. The omelette is filled with cheese, bell peppers and spinach. Whenever one orders for an omelette, they can order 'add ons ' like Cheese, Grilled Chicken, Chicken Salami, Chicken Sausages, Bacon, etc. My cousin decided to try the Chicken Salami. The omelette was cut into four pieces and on the side were two potato smileys as well as a salad which I heard tasted really good. The omelette was cooked well and there was enough stuffing inside to 'stuff ' my cousin 's stomach till she could eat no more. I would recommend this dish to anyone who is a big fan of Omelettes. In spite of the place being crowded, the food was served within 10 minutes. Not only is the service good, but so is the ambiance which gives you a feel of a Cafe and a Restaurant all in one. The waiters are very polite and they were able to answer our questions about anything mentioned in the menu, They were able to reply to us with confidence instead of mumbling something. In the menu, each of the dishes are given with a thorough description in case you are not too familiar with the ingredients. I thought this is very helpful so that one can understand what the dish consists of and then decide whether they want to order or not. While waiting for our bill, we asked for a copy of the menu so that we could see what else is served at Diesel Cafe. They have an array of Salads, Sandwiches, Pastas, Sizzlers, Burgers, Milkshakes, and Desserts! The nice thing to keep in mind is that they are open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, 7 days a week. Would not mind dropping in here for lunch or dinner in the near future.. Though I may read many reviews of restaurants which others have visited, Diesel Cafe is one where I have read more positive reviews than negative ones. After visiting last week, I can understand why that is. They have a vast menu, the ambiance is nice, the service is extremely good and most importantly....the food is sooooooooooo good! One of the things I read about Diesel Cafe is that it 's very expensive. The tab was Rs. 1139 and we never felt that it was too much and not worth it. Really happy that my mom and I got to visit Diesel Cafe and relive my childhood by eating the yummy Pancakes and Waffles. The taste was just like that of the food in US. Thanks a lot to the Management for running such a wonderful place! The next time you are craving for a good ol ' English breakfast, just head down to Diesel Cafe and relish on all the tempting delicacies which they have to offer. Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5
Went to simbly south next door which had not yet opened and had no idea about Diesel Cafe. I had the Tom Kha soup, risotto and mushrooms. It was really nice. We just happened to stumble upon this place whist our journey towards our hometown in Mangalore. We spoke to the lady chef who prepared our dishes and she was very friendly.
