All the accompaniments cooked wonderfully as well. The pub itself has a lovely interior and is in a great little village although it’s a little deceiving from the outside. Really good value for money and would definitely visit again
Booked at last minute a table at The Stagg for sunday lunch. It was an absolutely beautiful roast. Highly recommend.
A rare review, but The Stag deserve it. We visited on the 6th and had an impeccable Sunday lunch and dessert. The Beef was cooked to perfection and the accompaniments were too, shout out in particular for the Cauliflower cheese!! Hosts Steve and Oliver were super friendly and even put up some bunting as we were celebrating my Mum’s birthday. Keep up the good work chaps, we will be back!
My friends and I stayed nearby and decided to have Sunday lunch here. Despite the slightly worn exterior, the inside of the pub is welcoming, with a traditional style inn that has a modern twist. The place is currently undergoing renovations, which will likely make it even better. The manager/owner greeted us and recommended a pleasant walk as we arrived early. Inside, there was a cozy fire and beautiful wooden furniture, and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The highlight, however, was the food! I had the beef roast and it was absolutely delicious, as was the raspberry roulade for dessert. My friends all enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding as well. We left feeling full and satisfied, with a wonderful experience overall. It was a nice touch that the chef even came out to say goodbye as we left. I would definitely come back if I ever find myself in the area again.
We stumbled upon a hidden gem in north Devon during a late Sunday afternoon in May. The Stag in Rackenford exceeded our expectations as we found ourselves without a reservation but were warmly welcomed and seated near an open fire in this 11th century pub restaurant. We both enjoyed the delicious pork Sunday roast with crispy crackling and perfectly cooked meat accompanied by a generous serving of vegetables. The addition of Yorkshire puddings at no extra cost was a pleasant surprise. The main courses were superbly cooked, prompting us to also indulge in desserts. The raspberry trifle and sticky toffee pudding were a delightful end to our meal. As experienced diners, we must commend the chef for an exceptional culinary experience. We look forward to returning to this amazing pub restaurant someday. Kudos to all involved in creating such a wonderful dining experience.
