The signature menu is Hwangtae Tteokguk, which contains green onions and rice cakes in a thick, white pollen soup. At first, it feels bland and boring, but as time goes on, you fall in love with the savory and light broth, and eating a piece of delicious cabbage kimchi is perfect. If you add a little bit of Cheongyang pepper, the soup tastes sharp and savory. However, compared to 4-5 years ago, the amount of dried pollack in dried pollack rice cake soup seems to have decreased a bit. The taste of the broth is unchanged.
Naju local recommended restaurant. They say they don't take reservations. However, the tables were full during lunch time. There are Hwangtae Seolleongtang and Hwangtae Tteokguk for lunch, but I chose Hwangtae Seolleongtang on the recommendation of an acquaintance. The soup is white and thick like beef bone soup, but locals say that the soup is made with dried pollack. It's more like hwangtaesagoltang than seolleongtang. Hwangtae, tofu, and rice cakes are mixed in the soup. The side dishes were delicious, and it was a hearty lunch.
