There wasn’t a single course that I didn’t enjoy or feel didn’t meet the standards for the price and expectations of the meal. My favorite was definitely the cheese course. I also appreciated that the service was much more relaxed compared to other upscale restaurants.
The description of the experience was also somewhat misleading, as it was not clearly stated that beverages were not included in the price. We were surprised to learn that there was a minimum charge of $250 per person for alcohol with the cellar experience. At the beginning of our dinner, we felt rushed by the staff to choose a sake or champagne pairing, especially since we anticipated a guided pairing process. Ultimately, we opted not to choose either and ended up selecting four bottles of wine during our meal. We noticed that the staff had difficulty locating bottles in the cellar; several times, a team member went in to search and then had to come back out to ask for assistance from another staff member. This created a chaotic atmosphere, which detracted from what we hoped would be a more serene evening. By the end of the night, we had consumed more alcohol than we intended. We enjoyed three bottles and were fortunately able to take the fourth home with us. Additionally, prior to our arrival, we indicated in a Q&A questionnaire that we were celebrating the anniversaries of two couples, but none of the staff acknowledged these special occasions. While I didn't want to write a negative review, we did reach out to the restaurant to share our concerns, but we never received a response. The highlight of the evening was the delicious food, but given the disappointing service for such an expensive dinner, I doubt I'll return or recommend Avery to friends. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously, makes some adjustments, and retains loyal customers, though I won’t be among them.
Overall, it was just underwhelming. I had high expectations given the price and the fact that it’s a Michelin-starred restaurant, but the quality of the dishes really surprised us in a negative way.
I've been wanting to go to Avery for a while and I'm glad I went. I loved starting out the meal in the lounge to enjoy some canapés and a cocktail (alcoholic or non-alcoholic). Then you go upstairs to enjoy the tasting. Great combinations of flavors with various influences. Balance flavors. Some highlights: the aged rack of lamb, the caviar pancakes (add on), and the allium tart. Although pricey, the champagne pairing is a nice change compared to wine pairings. They also offer a sake pairing.Great space and ambiance. Friendly service.
Are you ready for a gastronomical adventure in the Filmore? Then step inside the Avery! My husband and I had so much fun here. The food and service were phenomenally good! The menu was amazing, and the presentation was off the charts. My favorites were the lobster curry soup, aged tuna, and the add on of the Hokkaido Snow Beef hot pot. The one dish that surprised me was the grilled beets. (Seriously, I hate beets. But Sean and the other chef guaranteed that I would like this dish. They were right. It was so good! would love to come back to try their next round of dishes, so I better start saving now.
